We provide information on mental health services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. A specialist mental health charity, founded in 1989, with experience advocating for service users in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

THE NEW PLOUGH INN are hosting a Charity Family Sports Day at Hinckley Town Cricket Club on 31st August from 12pm.

The aim is to raise funds for Lamp - Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project - as teams of around 10 (children welcome) take part in classic games from egg and spoon races and welly wanging, to an obstacle course and tug of war!

The charity Lamp is an independent community mental health advocacy charity serving the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

They exist to ensure that people experiencing mental health challenges are listened to, understood and empowered. They believe that everyone has the right to be heard and to play an active role in decisions that affect their health, wellbeing and future.

We’re delighted that The New Plough Inn in Hinckley has chosen LAMP as its charity partner!

The Plough Inn has a fantastic history of fundraising for charities across Leicestershire, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of the next chapter. Their support begins with a quiz night this Thursday, followed by plans to take on a series of physical and mental challenges to raise funds for LAMP.

A huge thank you to the whole team and everyone who supports their fundraising. We’re excited to see what they achieve and to work together to raise vital funds and awareness for our work.

You can feel lonely in a crowded room.

New research published this month has found that loneliness is strongly associated with poorer mental health, lower wellbeing, poorer general health and a greater likelihood of living with multiple long-term health conditions. The researchers also found that feeling lonely has a stronger relationship with health than simply having fewer social connections.

That is an important distinction.

Someone can have colleagues, friends and family around them every day and still experience loneliness. Equally, someone with a smaller social circle may not feel lonely at all.

For employers, charities and community organisations, this is an important reminder. Creating opportunities for people to come together is valuable, but meaningful connection matters even more, feeling listened to, understood and supported can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing.

Mental health is not always about what we can see. Sometimes the biggest challenge is not isolation, but the feeling that nobody truly understands what someone is going through.

The summer holidays are not a break for everyone.

For some families, the school holidays bring time together, new experiences and a welcome change of pace.

For others, six weeks without the usual routine can bring added pressure, loneliness, financial worry and anxiety.

Parents and carers may be balancing work, childcare and rising costs. Young people can lose the structure, support and social contact that school provides. Existing mental health challenges do not disappear simply because the sun is shining.

This summer, try to protect the basics where you can. Keep some structure in the day, spend time outside, stay connected with other people and make space for honest conversations about how everyone is feeling.

Most importantly, remember that struggling during the summer holidays does not make you a bad parent, carer or family. It means you may need support.

Lamp provides free, independent mental health advocacy across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, helping adults understand their rights, explore their options and have their voice heard.

Now, he’ll be sharing the stories behind the cutting room, the pressure, the creativity and the moments audiences never get to see.

Hosted by Martin Ballard (), this special edition of Lamp Lunchtime With… offers the chance to hear from one of the most respected figures in the film industry in an intimate interview and audience Q&A.

We’re looking for a new Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees at Lamp.

If you’re a finance professional, accountant or someone with charity finance experience who wants to use your skills to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of an independent mental health advocacy charity supporting people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The role is flexible, largely remote, and requires around 1 to 3 hours per week.

Our advocates are at New Parks Library today from 10:00am until 1:00pm, offering free, confidential information, advice and advocacy support for anyone experiencing mental health challenges, or for those supporting a loved one.
