At its meeting on 27 August, the Planning Committee agreed to have no objection to the 13 new houses proposed on Foxbury Lane, Westbourne.
The government allocates the number of housing each area is expected to deliver, and Westbourne is obliged to find space for 30 new houses over the next 14 years. Of these, 12 are already planned and/or approved, leaving 18 still to be allocated. Seven are in the process of being applied for at land behind Mile End House on East Street, which leaves land for 11 more to be allocated.
For this application, six are included in the 12 already planned, so only seven new unplanned are proposed. If Westbourne is to achieve its housing allocation, the development must included 11 unplanned dwellings which is four more than currently proposed.
In addition, the site has been identified in Westbourne's Neighbourhood Plan which was carefully written by local residents over many years to plan development in the right places in the village. The Neighbourhood Plan is currently under review and the Council has made a number of recommendations to the planning application to ensure new considerations are taken into account.
