Ely and East Cambridgeshire is the UK Parliamentary Constituency covering the District of East Cambridgeshire as well as the South Cambs District Wards of Milton and Waterbeach and Cottenham. We are the local Conservative Association, whose aims are clear: to serve our neighbours dutifully and successfully in local public office, and to return a hardworking and committed Conservative Member of Parliament at the next General Election. We work all the year round for local residents. At Conservative-run East Cambs District Council, we've delivered millions in community projects (cycleways, GP meeting rooms, learning hubs, leisure centres and more), free town centre car parking and zero external debt - whilst freezing our portion of Council Tax for 12 years straight. Now we have set our sights on the big goal - returning a Conservative MP to office in the constituency, to serve residents actively, be a strong local champion and give our views on the national issues of the day. Covering the City of Ely, the market towns of Soham and Littleport and a huge number of rural villages, the rural constituency is also home to a number of centres of excellence in high-tech research and manufacturing. Agriculturally the constituency is largely arable due to the lighter chalk soils in the south whilst in the northern Fen areas intensive salad, vegetable and root cropping predominate. The constituency includes the July Course at Newmarket. Most of the Stud farms that surround Newmarket, including the National Stud, lie within the constituency. It also includes the world-famous Wicken Fen and the stunning Cathedral City of Ely, both popular filming sites.
