We’ve received reports of fraudsters targeting people across the county purporting to be from Cambs Police investigating a potential fraud at their bank.

This is an all too familiar story… courier fraud typically begins with an unexpected phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer or bank employee. Victims are told their account is at risk or that they are assisting with an investigation, before being instructed to withdraw money, purchase items, or disclose sensitive information. A courier is then sent to collect the items such as jewellery, cash, bank cards and PINs. In reality, this is the work of criminals and anything handed over is lost.

How to protect yourself from courier fraud:

• Remember, neither the police nor your bank will never ask you to transfer money to a safe account.
• We will never send a courier to your home to collect bank cards, cash, or other valuables such as jewellery
• Contact the organisation directly using contact details you know are correct, such as those on official websites, the back of your card or by calling 159 for your bank
• Don’t trust the Caller ID display on your phone - it’s not proof of ID and many fraudsters use fake numbers
• You can report suspected scam calls by sending a text to 7726 with the word ‘Call’ followed by the caller’s number

🌾 National Rural Crime Action Week: That’s a wrap!

Throughout the week, Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team has highlighted the many different aspects of rural policing, from tackling organised criminality and working with partner agencies to listening to rural voices and supporting our communities.

Rural crime can affect livelihoods, businesses, and the wider countryside. Protecting these things relies on strong relationships with farmers, landowners, residents, volunteers and partner organisations.

To finish the week, we wanted to share some photographs of the animals our officers are fortunate enough to see while patrolling across Cambridgeshire. These encounters are a welcome reminder of why protecting our countryside matters.

Thank you to everyone who reports incidents, shares information and supports our work. National Rural Crime Action Week may be ending, but our commitment to rural Cambridgeshire continues throughout the year.

Assistant Chief Constable Leighton Hammett joined volunteers, supporters and partner agencies to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue.

The milestone open day held last Saturday in Ely, showcased the wide range of specialist capabilities the charity provides in support of emergency services and communities across the county.

ACC Hammett was among many guests who attended to show their support and learn more about the team's work. Volunteers demonstrated a variety of search and rescue functions, including water search operations, search dogs, medical support bike teams, drones and the technology used to help locate missing people.

“It was a privilege to join Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue in celebrating your 20th anniversary on Saturday," said ACC Hammett.

“On behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the extraordinary commitment, professionalism and compassion shown by your volunteers over the past two decades.

“Your willingness to give your time freely, often at short notice and in challenging conditions, to help locate missing and vulnerable people provides invaluable support to policing and brings comfort and hope to families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

“The difference you make to our communities cannot be overstated, and we are enormously proud to work alongside such a dedicated and trusted partner.

“Thank you for everything you do in service of the people of Cambridgeshire.”

Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue is a volunteer-led charity which works alongside police and other emergency services to help search for high-risk missing people and provide specialist support during incidents across the county.

🤝 National Rural Crime Action Week: Partnerships in Action

Rural crime rarely stops at county borders, and no single organisation can tackle it alone.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works alongside neighbouring police forces, national policing units, local authorities, rural organisations and other specialist partners to prevent offending, share intelligence, recover stolen property and disrupt criminals using our countryside and road networks.

Joint operations such as Operation Chambers bring agencies together to check vehicles, identify offences and target those using rural roads to transport stolen property or support wider criminality.

By combining local knowledge, specialist skills and information from our communities, we can achieve far more together.
