The Royal Regiment of Scotland has been given the Freedom of Inverclyde following a public parade and ceremony on Saturday 5 September.

The honour was agreed by councillors last year to recognise the service, dedication and sacrifice of the Regiment and their strong historical ties with Inverclyde.

Around 100 serving personnel marched along the Esplanade in Greenock to Battery Park with soldiers from The 2nd Battalion (2 SCOTS) along with The Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland and 2 SCOTS - Pipes, Drums & Bugles.

At the park Provost Drew McKenzie presented the Freedom of Inverclyde scroll to Major General Robin Lindsay CBE, Colonel of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland is the first ever to receive the Freedom of Inverclyde.

Soldiers from Edinburgh-based 3rd Battalion The Rifles have been competing against each other in the unit's traditional 'Chosen Man' contest on the Pentland Hills.

The competition sees riflemen put through a series of challenges, shooting drills and obstacle courses to find out who is the best.
