The Kenyan Community in Scotland is delighted to share an exciting opportunity to support a developing cultural and educational partnership between Newbattle High School in Dalkeith and a high school in Nairobi, Kenya.
Newbattle High Schoolβs senior pupils study Modern Studies, global citizenship and development issues, and are keen to learn about Kenya through genuine conversations and connections with Kenyans living in Scotland.
Members of our community are invited to express an interest in getting involved. Opportunities may include:
π°πͺ Sharing experiences of Kenyan culture and everyday life
π Talking about education and life in Kenya and Scotland
πΆ Sharing Kenyan music, food, recipes and traditions
π£οΈ Supporting workshops and activities with pupils
π€ Taking part in cultural and fundraising events
π Helping strengthen connections between young people in Kenya and Scotland
There is no long-term commitment required. Participation could be as simple as one conversation, one afternoon, one workshop or one school event.
We particularly encourage Kenyan students and young people living in Scotland to consider getting involved. This is a great opportunity to make new connections while developing communication, teamwork, leadership and community engagement skills. Participants who become involved may also be able to receive a reference from the teacher recognising their contribution.
