It’s Test It Tuesday! 🚨

Making sure you have working smoke & heat alarms could save your life. Test them weekly to make sure if fire does break out everyone in your home has time to get out safely.

As Autumn officially starts today remember that earlier sunsets and glare from the low sun can create extra challenges when driving.

📱Rechargeable batteries are found in lots of household items such as mobile phones, laptops, e-bikes and e-scooters.

Think about where your device is plugged in. If a battery catches fire it could block your escape route.

And don't recharge while you are asleep.

As with all fires - get out, stay out and call 999.

SUN’S OUT… BUT THE SCOTTISH WATERS AREN'T WARM! 🌊

High temperatures are around this week, but remember: warm weather doesn’t mean warm water.

Cold water can still be dangerous, even on a hot day.

🌊 Stay out of unfamiliar water
🛟 Keep children and pets close
📱 Tell someone where you’re going
🚨 If someone gets into difficulty, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard or SFRS if inland.

🔥 AND WHILE YOU’RE ENJOYING THE SUN…

Please don’t use BBQs directly on grass or dry ground.

One stray ember can quickly turn into a wildfire 🌱🔥

✅ Keep BBQs on a stable, non-combustible surface
💧 Keep water nearby
🚮 Make sure it’s completely out before leaving

Enjoy the sunshine. Stay safe. Don’t let a nice day out turn into an emergency. ☀️

When you’re burning wood at home, the only thing your neighbours should notice is your warm smile 🙂🔥

Excessive smoke or a lingering smoke smell are the two main reasons neighbours complain about log burners - and both usually come down to fixable causes like burning wet wood, lack of maintenance, or an outdated stove.

KNOW WHAT TO DO! 🍳🔥

It’s not something we expect to happen… but if your pan does decide to turn dinner into a drama, remember:

🔥 Turn off the heat — but ONLY if it’s safe to do so.
💦 NEVER throw water on a pan fire! Water + hot oil = things can get MUCH worse, very quickly.
🚫 Don’t try to be the hero. Leave the fire alone and get out.
🚪 Leave the room and, if you can, close the kitchen door behind you.
📞 Get outside and call 999. Ask for the Fire Service.

Remember: Your dinner is replaceable. You’re not. ❤️

You can help prevent rubbish fires:

• Store your rubbish in a secure area if possible
• Don’t fly-tip materials or leave rubbish to build up outdoors
• Report any build-up of rubbish to your Local Authority or community fire station. This will help ensure it can be removed and prevent fires.
• Report any fly-tipping direct to your Local Authority
