A man has been sentenced following an assault in Edinburgh in December, 2023 which left a man permanently disfigured.

Alijo Danso, aged 22, was sentenced to four years, six months in prison at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026.

Around 10.20pm on Sunday, 3 December, 2023, emergency services were called to a report of the assault of a man at a property on Whyte Place, Edinburgh.

Detective Constable Chris Docherty said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim in this case. The injuries inflicted during this attack will remain with him forever, serving as a constant reminder of the ordeal he suffered.

“No one should have to endure the pain and lasting consequences caused by such reckless and aggressive behaviour.

“Violent crime has no place in our communities, and we remain committed to identifying, investigating and bringing offenders before the courts.”

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a man in Edinburgh.

Around 6am on Wednesday, 25 June, 2025, we received a report of an unresponsive man on Princes Street.

Emergency services attended and a 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The 36-year-old is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 4 June, 2026.

Detectives are appealing for information following the theft of three mountain bikes in Peebles.

Two of the bikes were stolen from Glentress between 3am and 4am on Saturday, 30 May, 2026.

The third bike was stolen from the same location between 3am and 4am on Monday, 1 June, 2026.

Bike 1 is a turquoise Yeti 160e with tan side wall tyres with serial number 2HIFD410167.

Bike 2 is a turquoise Yeti 160e with black side wall tyres.

Bike 3 is a black specialised Levo and now has ping handlebar grips with serial number WSBC004009026U.

Four males in dark clothing were seen acting suspiciously in the area and officers are keen to trace them.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0885 of 30 May, 2026

We are appealing for witnesses following a report of a woman in distress in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh.

Between Monday, 25 and Wednesday, 27 May, 2026, it is believed a woman was seen to run into the roadway on Corstorphine Road, near the zoo.

Members of the public stopped to assist the woman and officers are looking to speak to these witnesses, particularly the taxi drivers who helped.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland quoting reference 2016 of 2 June.

Police Scotland has released an image of a man who may be able to assist with an ongoing investigation into a series of housebreaking incidents in Edinburgh.

The incidents took place at residential properties across the city between 4 and 21 April, 2026.

The man officers wish to speak with is described as aged mid-30s to mid-40s, medium to heavy build and clean-shaven. He is believed to speak Spanish and may have a South American accent or use Colombian slang. His most recent clothing includes a baseball cap, waterproof jacket, and an across-the-shoulder bag.

Detective Constable Tom Cunningham said: “We would appeal to the man in the image, or anyone who recognises him, to contact us as soon as possible. “Anyone who has information that may assist with this investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 2553 of 21st April 2026. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
