The Palm Houses and the The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo: two Edinburgh icons brought together under one (newly restored) roof 🌴🎷

The Qatari Police Band, one of more than 800 performers taking part in this year’s Tattoo, marched into our restored Palm Houses for a rare glimpse ahead of their reopening.

The Tattoo runs until tomorrow, 29 August, and our Palm Houses reopen on 2 October. It's a great time to be in Edinburgh.

Hello, old friends. Colchicums are beginning to appear among the fallen leaves 💜

Commonly called the autumn crocus, they're actually not crocuses at all. Colchicums belong to the Colchicaceae family, while true crocuses belong to the Iridaceae.

Life-sized illustrations of the endangered Amorphophallus titanum (titan arum) during bud, bloom and decay 🎨

Botanical illustrators Jacqui Pestell, Sharon Tingey and Işık Güner created this beautiful watercolour triptych of the famously pungent plant, inspired by its historic first bloom in Scotland in 2015.

Known as the 'co**se flower' it's known for its size, pungent smell, and the rarity of its bloom.

🎉 Conservation success! This is the first known flowering of the rare marsh saxifrage (Saxifraga hirculus) in cultivation, and we've recently had great results translocating the plant in the wild.

Jenny, Erin and Pablo from our Scottish Plant Recovery Team explain how they're helping to restore the endangered native plant, starting with the innovative cascade, designed by Becca, the Scottish Plant Recovery Horticulture Supervisor.
