If you’re thinking of becoming a foster carer, we know you’ll have a lot of questions. We’re going to share the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. 💡

Q: I want to become a foster carer but there are so many fostering services how do I choose which one to apply to?

A: Foster carers can only be approved by one service, however we recommend contacting several fostering services when you first start on your journey, so you can decide which one best suits your needs. 🔍

Things to consider include – the training and support provided, as well as financial support. It’s also worth thinking about the type of fostering you’d like to do, as some services might not be recruiting for all types of fostering roles.

You can find out more about different types of fostering here ➡️ https://fosterline.info/thinking-of-fostering/what-is-fostering/types-of-fostering/

Thinking about fostering and wondering what the first few days might look like? 💭

When a child arrives, it’s usually less about having everything perfect and more about helping them feel safe and settled. 🏠

That might mean:

– Having some basic essentials ready
– Checking what they need and how they’re used to doing things
– Keeping things simple while they get their bearings
– Giving them space, but letting them know you’re there

Some children might want to talk. Others won’t. There’s no single “right” way for those first moments to go.

If you’re considering fostering, you can find out more on our website, or contact one of our Fosterline advisers who are happy to help with any questions you have. 📞
