Smarter Regions Forum, bringing together leaders from government, business, and academia to explore India's expanding role in the global economy and the opportunities arising from its rapid growth.
The visit follows the successful West Midlands Mayoral Trade Mission to in February this year and reflects the growing momentum in the India–West Midlands partnership. Discussions highlighted strong synergies between Gujarat and the West Midlands in advanced manufacturing, automotive innovation, technology, skills, clean growth, and investment. Over 500 enthusiastic participants have gathered at Victoria Square, Birmingham, in the heart of the Midlands, for the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations, marking a vibrant beginning to 🧘‍♂️🇮🇳🇬🇧 A powerful atmosphere of unity, wellbeing, and cultural harmony set the tone for the day, reflecting the global spirit of and .
The day commenced with a media interaction by Consul General Dr Venkatachalam Murugan, who spoke about the relevance of Yoga and its growing global message of health, harmony, and inner balance. He emphasised Yoga as India’s timeless gift to humanity and highlighted key Government of India initiatives under , including Yoga Mahotsav 2026, the Yoga Sangam Portal, Yoga Park Portal, the Khajuraho countdown, and the global Guinness World Record Yoga event.
In his inspiring welcome address at Victoria Square, the Consul General further outlined the Consulate’s curated Yoga initiatives, including seven specialised Yoga sessions, Ayurveda integration, Yoga Asana competitions, and exhibitions under 🌿✨
Distinguished dignitaries, including the Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield Cllr Dr Nitish Raut and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dwan Ward CBE, were felicitated on the occasion. They spoke about Yoga’s universal appeal and its growing importance in promoting health, peace, and community wellbeing across societies 🇮🇳🇬🇧
The Yoga Protocol Session, led by Ms Maria, Mr Andrew, and Dr Madhu, brought participants together in a powerful shared experience of mindfulness and inner calm 🧘‍♀️🌿 This was followed by vibrant Yoga Asana performances showcasing strength, flexibility, discipline, and focus, as participants of all ages demonstrated Yoga as a way of life beyond physical exercise.
From graceful individual postures to energetic group displays, the event reflected unity, tradition, and modern wellness coming together in harmony. The spirit of community was further celebrated as winners of the Yoga Asana Competition (Adult Category) were felicitated, recognising their dedication, discipline, and inspiring performances 🏆👏
As part of , Ayurveda information tables were also set up at Victoria Square, offering free guidance on stress management, sleep health, digestion, and holistic wellbeing. Experts Dr Ashok Kumar, Ms Anu Monga (Anupama Wellness), and Dr Vatsala engaged visitors with practical insights into balanced living 🌿✨ The 12th International Day of Yoga in Birmingham stands as a powerful celebration of wellness, unity, and shared human values—bringing together communities in the true spirit of Yoga for a healthier and more connected world 🧘‍♂️🌍

Yoga Mahotsav celebrations continue, culminating in the final yoga session at India in UK (Consulate General of India, Birmingham) , featuring a wonderful peace talk by Swami Brahmanisthananda and a mantra meditation session by ISKCON Birmingham
