Campaign to Protect Rural England are rightly really concerned that the government's new National Planning Policy Framework will mean local plans, already chocka with national targets, will be, next to, meaningless.

Get our Sussex MPs to write to govt now.

You can respond to the government consultation too!

Imagine a countryside train station you know well. Nestled amongst green fields and country lanes. Providing a quick and green way for town dwellers to escape to the countryside for a peaceful walk. Now, picture it surrounded on all sides by concrete, bricks, diggers and dozers. New government rules...

Today our first ESCC Full Council as six of us! Cllr Brett Wright of Meads Division in Eastbourne moved across to the Greens from Liberal Democrats💚

Brett said “It’s been a sad decision for me personally to leave the Lib Dems. At the end of the day, though, I need to belong in political party which better aligns with my values and enables me to put the residents of Meads first. As a Green Councillor, I now have support from a party that shares my faith that, together, we can make transformative differences to local people's lives. I’ll be getting on with the hard work there is to do, taking an open and collaborative approach with my new Green colleagues as well as those from other parties, to protect our communities from the council’s disastrous Conservative administration.”

Welcome Brett! great to have you on board 💚

Significant achievements on housing in Hastings ~ The number of children living in private temporary accommodation was 62 fewer at the end of 2025 than it was at the end of 2024. There are also no children living in bed and breakfast accommodation or accommodation with shared facilities.

Hastings Borough Council’s housing acquisitions programme has led to fewer children living in temporary accommodation and has helped people out of rough sleeping in 2025.

The number of children living in private temporary accommodation was 62 fewer at the end of 2025 than it was at the end of 2024. There are also no children living in bed and breakfast accommodation or accommodation with shared facilities.

In 2025 we were also able to help 96 people indoors and out of rough sleeping.

The housing acquisition programme has allowed us to buy nearly 150 homes that can now house residents in housing need.

Cllr Glenn Haffenden, leader of the council and lead councillor for housing, said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to reduce the number of children living in private temporary accommodation. We know how important it is for children to have a safe and secure home to give them the best start in life. Being able to live close to schools and support networks is really important. We will continue our programme to buy more homes so we can keep reducing the numbers of people in private temporary accommodation.

“I’m also really pleased that we have been able to make such a difference to people who have been rough sleeping through the acquisition programme – we are committed to continuing to buy homes that we can use to house local residents in housing need.”
