Eastbourne RNLI save a life

๐Ÿšจ โ€“ 72

๐Ÿ•‘ Monday 8th June - 1:03pm

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Solent Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Eastbourne RNLI's D-Class inshore lifeboat, The Peter Dixon, following reports of a person in difficulty in the water off Holywell.

After making best speed in choppy sea conditions, the lifeboat crew arrived on scene and established radio contact with Coastguard Rescue Officers, who had sight of the casualty and guided the crew to their position now approximately half a mile offshore.

The casualty was quickly located and was clearly in a life-threatening situation. A crew member entered the water to support and stabilise the casualty, preventing them from taking on any more water. Working swiftly and effectively as a team, the crew recovered the casualty aboard the lifeboat and proceeded at speed back to Holywell Beach.

On arrival, the casualty was handed into the care of waiting emergency services and transferred to hospital for further treatment.

This successful outcome was made possible through the outstanding teamwork of RNLI volunteers, Coastguard Rescue Officers and emergency service partners, resulting in a life being saved.

๐Ÿ“ž In an emergency at the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

It was fantastic to meet so many members of the public, answer your questions, and share important advice on how to stay safe around the coast.

We always enjoy opportunities like this to engage with our community and promote coastal safety awareness.

๐Ÿ“ท Special thanks to Daniel Moon for kindly allowing us to share these photos from our demonstration on Saturday.

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Just after the ILB left the harbour responding to a seperate tasking, Solent Coastguard requested the launch of our All-Weather Trent class lifeboat to conduct a search for a seperate missing person in the Sovereign Harbour area.

Our volunteers conducted a detailed search of the outer harbour alongside Eastbourne and Bexhill Coastguard Rescue Teams, Police officers and the coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 375' but with nothing found, the search was extended to Holywell.

As the lifeboat arrived at Holywell, information was received that the casualty had been located away from the search area and all assets were then stood down.
