As the summer holidays come to an end, we would like to take a moment to congratulate all our foster carers on making it through what can be a busy, challenging and rewarding time.

Thank you for your hard work, dedication, patience and commitment throughout the summer. The amazing job you do every day makes such a positive difference to the children and young people in your care.

We would also like to wish all the children and young people a wonderful start to the new academic year. We hope they have a happy, successful and positive year ahead.

Well done, everyone — and thank you for everything you do! 🧡

Ru Petraitis-Williams BEM- Chair

Meet Ru, Chair of the East Sussex Foster Care Association.

Ru, her husband Kevin, and their daughter Blue have been fostering for over 17 years. What started as a decision to open their home to children has become a hugely rewarding and fulfilling journey for their whole family.

“We have the privilege of welcoming children into our home, sharing their challenges and celebrating their achievements along the way. The children who come into care are incredibly resilient. They have taught us so much about strength, gratitude and appreciating the simple things in life.”

Ru and her family foster children aged 5 to 15, and for them, fostering is so much more than providing a safe and loving home — it’s about building relationships, creating memories and helping children feel valued, supported and cared for.

“Being a foster carer is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done.”
In 2024 Ru was honoured with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to fostering. This prestigious recognition reflects her outstanding dedication to supporting foster families and improving the lives of children in care. Her commitment, compassion and years of service have made a lasting difference to the fostering community across East Sussex and beyond.

We’re incredibly proud to have Ru as our Chair and grateful for the experience, passion and dedication she brings to ESFCA and the foster families we support.

Community Support – Stronger Together

Our work would simply not be possible without the incredible support of our community. Over the years, so many organisations, businesses, individuals and families have stood alongside ESFCA, helping us create opportunities, provide support and make a real difference to foster families across East Sussex.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us – whether through funding, donations, venues, activities, fundraising, time or simply helping us spread the word.

And, of course, our amazing community…

We could never forget the many family members, friends, friends of friends and volunteers who give their time, energy and talents to support ESFCA. From helping at events and cooking and baking, to fundraising, donating and spreading the word, every contribution makes a difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us, including Julie & Hugh Bell, Cllr Colin Belse and the many others who continue to stand behind ESFCA.

Together, our community helps us build brighter futures for children in care and stronger, better-supported foster families.
