Glendale grounds maintenance contract began in April 26 and in the past few days they have got to the Sovereign Ward. Prince William Parade verges were cut and so was Pacific Drive (in pouring rain).
I thought it was nice that the daisies were left as they are blooming. Brought a smile at the thought of someone taking the care to cut the grass around it. Well done 👍🏼 Cllr Kshama ShoreCllr David SmallJane@Eastbourne ConservativesResidents of Sovereign HarbourBournefree Magazine

Only one week away from East Sussex County Council Elections, I am your Sovereign Division candidate, good to be out and about talking to residents. I have been a strong voice for Sovereign for the last 5 years and will continue to champion its residents concerns.

I am rooted in realism and will be the first one to acknowledge that we cannot solve everything immediately. Some of the examples here have been challenging and have taken years to resolve. I have helped secure (PSPO) Public Space Protection Order on local roads; Successfully challenged Southern Water over smells at Langney Point and back proper pot-hole repairs rather than short term fixes.

Eastbourne Food Waste Pilot – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
EBC are trialling food waste collections for around 200 homes in Langney Point ahead of a full Eastbourne-wide roll-out throughout the spring. Your Councillors and crew were out speaking to residents and delivering the recycling caddies to the homes in Aylesbury Avenue, Gardener Close, Wade Close and Woodward Close on Tuesday 24th February. The kit consists of an indoor food waste caddy, an outdoor food waste caddy, a roll of compostable caddy liners and an explanatory leaflet.

The pilot in the trial area will help train the crew and to test out the new ultra low emission electric collection vehicle. The food waste will be collected weekly and it will help us cut down on the amount of household waste sent for incineration by diverting it to a dedicated composting facility.

We visited the Woodlands In-Vessel Composting facility on 16th February and it was good to see the garden waste, Christmas trees and food waste from Lewes converted into best soil conditioner which is distributed to local farms and available for gardeners to purchase. For more information o about food wast collection visit:

Does Eastbourne's Lib Dem Leader Think Eastbourne Residents are Stupid?

Council Leader Steve Holt told residents last week that the Council had paid back its emergency government support "as a result of savings achieved and operational decisions."

At Cabinet this week, Conservative leader Robert Smart exposed this as misleading.

The Council hasn't paid back its bailout through savings. What they actually did:

Sold the David Lloyd Centre for close to £10 million

Sold Hampden Retail Park for around £14 million

Had the Government write down their debt

Cllr Smart said "Cllr Holt's claims are rubbish. They've paid back part of their government support because of forced asset sales and the Government writing down their debt, not savings.

"Tens of millions from asset sales, combined with the Government writing down their debt, is what allowed them to repay part of what they owe. But they presented this as if it was careful management and savings. It's completely misleading.

"Steve Holt should confirm whether he just misunderstands the transactions or is deliberately misrepresenting them."

Selling off assets and getting helped out by the Government isn't the same as making savings.**

The Council still owes around £4,000 for every taxpayer in Eastbourne, making it one of the most debt-ridden councils in the country.

Does Steve Holt think residents won't notice the difference?

It’s bad enough for individuals and families, but it’s unthinkable for hospitality trade. I checked in with some of the businesses in the Harbour and thankfully their supply was not affected this weekend. Well done Environment Agency on clearing the weeds. These are left on the side so that any water animals can return safely into the water.
We are glad it’s being done now before the deluge of the winter season. Thank you.

A partial update on the overflowing waste bins in the park on Pacific Drive.
There is undoubtedly an issue between EBC and Stratton on the adoption of the park. Stratton’s have confirmed that they have instructed a private company to empty the bins regularly but this has not happened. 6 bins all overflowing. Until this is sorted can you please dispose your rubbish in other bins or take it home. This is a short term inconvenience and it will be sorted in the near future.
