A correct message from Eastbourne Borough Council:

Don't give money to the homeless.

It may sound harsh but it's true.

The message is clear: giving money to people on the street can do more harm than good.

It might feel like the kindest thing to do at the time, but in many cases, it actually keeps people on the street.

To really make a positive difference, residents and visitors are encouraged to donate to a local homelessness charity.

This way you can be confident that anything you give will be used to improve the lives and opportunities of people experiencing homelessness.
