Today in the Spurn Discovery Centre we have had sunshine, rain, heavy and dramatic cloudy skies and whilst this has been unfolding around us, we have had a good few customers in for breakfast, coffees, teas and cake. Meanwhile two of us have been making! A fresh batch of Leek, potato and Broccoli soup and a fresh batch of our delicious cheese scones.

Quieter days are welcome too, though we don't like too many of them. There are only so many shelves you can clean, only so many scones, crumbles, cakes flapjacks or soups we make that will fit in our freezers. It's good to have a balance of people coming to the centre.

When it is quieter it gives us the time, as staff, to enjoy where we work. So often we are concentrating on what is in front of us and the view goes largely unnoticed, until the end of the day when we head out of the café doors and breath in the wonderful salty sea air...

We look forward to welcoming you to the centre soon. 😊

Happy ! 🌊

Did you know seagrass is one of the ocean's greatest superpowers? It locks away carbon, holds coastlines together, and creates thriving habitat for wildlife - all at once.

Our restoration team has been doing incredible work at Spurn Point, and we'd love for you to see it for yourself. 🌿

✨Discover life on the edge at Spurn, where the extraordinary happens every day.✨

Marine miracles beneath the waves; a lost town that ruled the waves but was also destroyed by them; finding massive mammoth fossils on a family day out… There’s nowhere quite like Spurn, and with two new walking tours starting soon, you can discover this ever-changing landscape in a new way.

Join our Spurn Discovery Tour for the perfect introduction to Yorkshire’s Land’s End. You’ll find out how Spurn was formed, why it keeps changing shape, the incredible wildlife spectacles you can enjoy here, and what’s happening today to protect and restore nature.

Or, for a trip through time, join our Secrets of Spurn history tour, featuring Vikings, the rise and fall of a lost town, tales of shipwrecks, lifeboats, lighthouses and Victorian tourism, right up to the present day.

Both tours last around 90 minutes, and start and end at the Discovery Centre.

Over the past year we’ve run a whopping 1,243 Task Days across Yorkshire!

Our volunteers are an amazing bunch, and have maintained and replaced hundreds of miles of dry-stone walls and fences on our reserves, planted thousands of trees, cleaned miles and miles of beaches on litter picks, tagged hundreds of oysters as part of the Trust’s Wilder Humber Project, and controlled the spread of invasive species to allow wild flowers to flourish.

No matter what the weather they showed up in the sun, rain and snow to ensure our nature reserves are great places for wildlife and people.

If you’d like to join our Practical Conservation Volunteers on a Task Day then check out our latest calendar of Task Days: www.ywt.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/practical-conservation

🌊Waves of Waste beach clean at Spurn on Saturday 6th June🌊

From tiny micro-plastics to tangles of deadly rubbish, every day we see the impact of human activity on our seas. Marine pollution is threatening our amazing Yorkshire wildlife, both in the ocean and along the coastline.

We're working extremely hard to tackle the problems of marine pollution, working with sea users and communities to reduce litter in the first place and safely dispose of rubbish found in the sea.

You can help be part of the solution by joining a beach clean! We organise events up and down the Yorkshire coast as part of our Waves of Waste programme.

📅 Saturday 6th June
⏰ 11:00 - 13:00
