I'm proud to have joined MSPs from across the parliament in signing an open letter calling on the Prime Minister to formally apologise for Britain's actions in Palestine during the Mandate period.
The letter states that: “Despite efforts to erase this history, the suffering in Palestine today is directly linked to Britain’s colonial legacy. In 1917, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration without legal authority and without the consent of Palestine’s Arab majority. For thirty years, British forces committed grave abuses against the Palestinian people, including torture, arbitrary detention and home demolitions, while systematically denying Arab self-determination.”
Nearly a year on from the britainowespalestine campaign's 400-page legal petition, Westminster has yet to respond.
