SNP GOVERNMENT DELIVER £2 BUS FARE CAP IN EAST KILBRIDE

BUS FARE CAP WILL BENEFIT THOUSANDS OF COMMUTERS

Collette Stevenson MSP has hailed news that the £2 bus fare cap is coming to East Kilbride.

It comes as First Minister John Swinney announced the £2 cap will apply to all single journeys across East Kilbride from Monday 7th of September.

Now, Collette Stevenson MSP has welcomed the measure which will help encourage people in East Kilbride to travel on public transport, putting more money in people’s pockets across the area.

This follows the SNP Scottish Government scrapping peak rail fares and expanding free bus travel to under 22s, ensuring more people can take advantage of Scotland’s public transport services for less.

The SNP promised the £2 bus fare cap would be delivered in the election campaign and from next week, people across Strathclyde and the West of Scotland will start accessing reduced cost services.

Commenting, Collette Stevenson MSP, said:

“The SNP promised we’d have a £2 bus fare cap and on Monday folk across East Kilbride will have it. Promise made and promise delivered.

“From Monday September 7th, single bus fares will be capped at £2 per journey – that will be vital in helping household budgets and encouraging more people to travel by public transport.

“We’ve already scrapped peak rail fares, frozen rail fares, expanded free bus passes to all under 22s, and this cap will allow even more people to take advantage of our public transport services. At a time of increasing fuel costs, it is about offering people a choice between the car and public transport.”
