⭐️Society Exec Election⭐️

Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce we have new exec to elect during our Annual General Meeting (AGM) next week. We decided to elect during the start of the new year to also give freshers the opportunity to get involved and develop their skills as a boost to their CVs!

The society had a great year with a very successful Engineering Ball, socials with huge turnout and even an inter-department drone project over the Easter break. There is fantastic potential this year to build on last year's successes and make the most of our collective university experience.

We are planning to hold an AGM next week (likely to be Monday 10th October 6pm at E101) where we shall elect the new exec. In preparation for husting for a particular role, think about why you want the role, what relevant skills and experiences you have and what value you want to bring in the role.

Firstly, I will outline our society aim: "Provide a social forum for students, primarily from the Engineering Department, through termly socials, a yearly Engineering Ball and extracurricular projects. It should also extend to sharing and signposting engineering internship and graduate opportunities."

The roles that we are aiming to have for this year are: President, Secretary, Social Secretary, Vice Social Secretary, Treasurer and a DE&I and Welfare Officer.

A more in-depth explanation of the key responsibilities for each role:

President:
- Set direction for society
- Help manage executive team to work together well (if required, make crucial decisions and handle disputes)
- Organize extracurricular projects for DUES members
- Research, compile and share engineering internship and graduate opportunities

Secretary:
- Handle administration of the group
- Managing DUES social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram and potentially LinkedIn) to inform members
- Endeavour to increase sign-ups
- Research, compile and share engineering internship and graduate opportunities

Social Secretary:
- Organising Engineering Ball in Epiphany term
- Organising and managing termly socials

Vice Social Secretary:
- Aid Social Secretary in organising Engineering Ball and termly socials

Treasurer:
- Handle society finances
- Engage with companies to get the society sponsored to increase society revenue

DE&I and Welfare Officer:
- Share and promote DE&I initiatives through relevant channels
- Endeavour to help any DUES member with welfare issues
- Endeavour to increase proportion of underrepresented groups within the society

We look forward to seeing loads of new faces at the AGM next week!

Hey everyone,

I am happy to share with you all a really interesting project we have been working on in the background with Dr Vogt and DIRDI!

Essentially, the aim is to build, program and fly a proper-sized drone from its constituent parts in teams of five right before the start of Summer term. We will be pushing ourselves to solve real-world flying and drone technology challenges at DIRDI's site based at NETPark.

We are limited to just five teams of five, so I highly recommend you sign up as soon as possible. This is a cross-departmental project, so share this with your other STEM friends if you think they would be interested. Other STEM societies will be sharing this with their members.

If we get enough engineers involved, I will do my best to get the DSU to sign off getting free pizza for us from our funds. Other than the project just being something fun to do to break up your revision, there is a competition to win a £250 Amazon voucher for the team (£50pp)!

The website for signing up: https://dirdi.org/eeops-d/

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
