We came to the TRC while covid restrictions were still on: the parties that used to bring the crowds to its downstairs hall were suspended, and while people strolled in and out of the main room we were told that, at other times, it would have been pretty much impossible to chat to Lex for 40 minutes straight.
This drew our attention to the ways in which the TRC affects people, beyond the immediate warmth of shared laughter, smokes and musical moments. The safety of the others' support, the encouraging words during a well deserved coffee break and the creativity bouncing through the narrow hallways shaped everyone’s way of working. ‘If it was just this room’ Alabaster tells us sitting in his cluttered studio at one end of the TRC, ‘I wouldn’t be doing none of this sh*t.’ Photos by the brilliant
