Tucked away on the Suffolk coast, Dunwich Heath offers you peace and quiet and a true sense of being at one with nature. Quiet and

serene, wild and dramatic, this is an inspiring visit, whatever the time of year. From July to September, the Heath is alive with colour; a patchwork of pink and purple heather and coconut-scented yellow gorse is an unmissable experience.

Did you know that we package up our leftover coffee grounds for visitors to use in their gardens?

Used coffee grounds are full of nutrients that can improve the quality of your soil and support plant growth.

Next time you visit for a drink, lunch or slice of cake, feel free to pick up a bag and take it home with you.

After yesterday's rain, Barry, one of our rangers, was treated to this beautiful flower display... โ›ˆ๏ธ The foxgloves at Broom Hill are certainly looking particularly lovely at the moment!

Foxgloves can be found in grassland, heathland, woodland and coastal habitats between June and September. They're a great source of nectar for bees and moths but for other animals - and us! - they're highly toxic, so please do be careful and enjoy them from a distance.

Earlier this month, the conservation team completed a litter pick on the beach, collecting 14 sacks of litter, approximately 30 metres of synthetic rope, three drums and a large plastic tray.

Going forward, we'll be carrying out weekly beach cleans, covering a 100m stretch and reporting the results to the Marine Conservation Society.

We are also planning to take part in this year's Big Beach Clean, which takes place right across the country.

Our favourite before and after. ๐Ÿ˜

This cream spot tiger moth was spotted the other day, having just emerged for the summer. The first photo shows the moth when it was found on the doorstep of our visitor hut, its wings tucked in. The second photo shows it a bit later on, after it was moved to a safer place, with its beautiful wings unfurled.

You can find out more about the moths we find at Dunwich Heath next week. Join us on Tuesday 26 and Friday 29 May for a chance to meet some of the moths and then take part in a craft activity to make your own to take home.

It's International Day for Biodiversity! ๐Ÿ’š

Across the Suffolk and Essex coast, our strategic focus through to 2035 is centred on how we can Restore Nature and safeguard the rich biodiversity that defines our landscapes.

The mosaic of species and ecosystems across our coast and countryside offer extraordinary opportunities, as well as urgent challenges, to protect and regenerate the natural world we depend on.

From the wetlands and shingle of Orford Ness, to lowland heath at National Trust Dunwich Heath, woodland restoration at Sutton Hoo National Trust, and saltmarsh creation on Northey Island, every place we care for plays a vital role in strengthening ecological resilience.

Through the everyday work of our teams, staff and volunteers, we are committed to sustainable habitat management, species recovery, and supporting both people and places to become more nature-rich and climate-positive.

As we mark International Day for Biodiversity 2026, we recognise that global change begins with local action. In our corner of the East of England, together with the National Trust across the UK and our many partners worldwide, we proudly champion the call to act locally for global impact.

By restoring habitats, reconnecting people with nature, and working beyond our boundaries, we are contributing to a healthier, more biodiverse planet for generations to come.๐Ÿ’š
