Sorry for the lateness tonight.
I may have just fell asleep when I sat down in my chair when I got home 😂🤣🥱

Anyhoo, another quiet one this week. It's getting to that time of year where things start slowing down, unfortunately for us it was visitors today.
Although we did have one very nice gentleman from Germany visit today over for a long holiday.
Didn't understand much English but we understand he is a driver on heritage lines over there and seemed to really enjoy his day with us.

Merlin was out on the narrow gauge line and MoD251 on the standard line. Although a couple of runs in 251 developed an air issue and wasn't quite getting up to pressure so we did a small shunt to swap over to D2650 which entertained some of the passengers waiting on the platform.

No29 saw the blower pipe getting fitted into position and a gasket seal made for the fitting.
Colin also got out the CAD to make templates for the blast/steam pipe cover voids.
The blow down valve was fitted too but unfortunately there seems to be a clearance issue so this will have to be resolved before refitting.

In the Traggon the runners and sliding doors were getting offered up. A wee bit of tweaking will get them operating nicely.

A tool donation we received last week was getting going through and some of them cleaned up.

How are we folks, it's that time again so here goes.....

Well it must be the ber months now as the fire was lit this morning to add a welcome warmth to the shed.

The Rail bus was moved along to the crossing to allow us access to get the floor section we added at the centre doors a bit more strength, this was done by adding an extra couple of frames under the board to take the flex, Allan mad a couple of frames from cls and got them fitted and then refitted the floor, we then cleaned off the old tape and added a new section of grip tape.

No29's boiler got a new hole cut into the smoke box to allow fitting of a through connector for the blower, this will carry steam from the feed pipe through into the smoke box and allow the blower ring to create a draw on the fire box to assist the fire, gaskets are to be made to help seal the new fitting

A selection of tools were donated by a freind of a volunteer, there is a mixed lot of spanners and various other tools including some that went over to the wood work shop, these included a claw hammer and rasp. a rather stuck shifting spanner was given some tlc to get it working again but there is still lots to sort through a very welcome donation.

The joiners had a busy day with a bit of tool maintenance and some wood work too, the donated plane that you saw on sunday had its metal work cleaned up and the blade sharpened and is now ready for use, a set of sash clamps had an issue with the pins falling out all the time so a solution was engineered in the workshop and they now have nuts fitted to the pin ends. Some scrap wood Tony saved was put to good use and used to create a planter which looks the mutts, and the big job of the day was sorting out the doors for the traggon, they had to be trimmed slightly to fit and now thats done they will be getting their glazing sorted out next.

The signal box got some more interior decor added this time it was waggon plates that have been donated by Jan the man and restored by Jimmy robb, these have been mounted above the windows and help to brighten the place up.

The narrow gauge guys were attending to some track work today, a few joints had dipped on the main running line so the guys were out with a maintenance train to get the sleepers re-packed with ballast and hopefully remove the dips.

Bit of a wet one today.
Heavy rain this morning but cleared up nice after lunch and the sun actually made an appearance too 🌞

Sandra was out on the narrow gauge line while MOD251 was on the brake van runs.

No29 saw a wee bit done with part of the blast pipe getting relocated to the side of the smoke box. Hole for mounting the fitting will be done on Wednesday.

The metal work for the PalVan got flipped and grey primer applied.

An old coupling bar for the narrow gauge saw new holes drilled and shortened a bit.

The Traggon sliding doors were being measured up for fitting, and a load of wood for making a planter box was assembled together in one place.

Not many pics today either unfortunately.

Well after a fantastic weekend normality resumed and it was time to crack on with all those jobs that need doing.

First was operation tidy the signal box, the model railway layout is off to preston grange to have another life entertaining the little and big kids, the ferris wheel and steam engine are now in the museum where they will be displayed, and all the other odds and sods have been put away.

A few sapling trees were brought in to be planted at the side of the narrow gauge, the plan is to have the whole route lined with trees to help with screening and a sense of going somewhere.
ballsting was also taking place on the re-aligned curve (sorry no pics).

Iain bench project saw the varnish going on today, the bench is looking great and will soon be back on the platform for visitors to enjoy, or it mat be placed on the site of the Talgo coach so visitor can watch the train go by.

Norrie was busy sorting through a huge donation of drill bits, they were all sized and checked for sharpness before being stored away for use in the drill drawers,

Dave was busy getting more primer applied to the metal work that came off of the palvans door, this will all be painted and then stored in the palvan until the new door is built and ready for it.

the rail bus was moved up onto the branch line from the platform to allow the brake van and loco back into the station ready for Sunday. we have some more work to do on the rail bus so watch out for that comming soon.

The DS48 had her new battery fitted and we quickly found she needs her fuel system bled, this will be done in due course and we will then get her moving again for shunting duties etc.

The signal box lever frame had an issue at the weekend with one of the switches on the levers for an electric colour light playing up, the problem was traced to the switch sitting 2mm to high and not always engauging with the lever correctly, a quick removal of some material with a chisel had the switch sitting where it should and working correctly.

And No29's blast pipes are now installed, thanks to the hard work of Colin and Andy S they were fitted this afternoon and we are now looking at getting the water tank and cab on so we can get her into the workshop to start getting pipe runs sorted out.

Part two BUSES

Well Well Well, what an amazing couple of days that was over the weekend. Unfortunately I was only here today(Sunday) but from reports the place was bouncing on Saturday too 😄

I had a wander round early doors to get as many pics as I could before we started scheduled running.
The Railbus RB004 was out for the first and last hours of running both days and was a huge hit with everyone who rode in it. And the amount of people taking pictures was amazing.

In-between times MOD 251 was on the brakevan runs.

Big Dave was up in steam as usual for a big event and did great all weekend.

Not a huge amount done work wise, a bit on the garden bench and some metal work cleaned up and primed in the shed.
Station ramp got a bit of weeding done and the new battery was delivered for the Ruston DS48.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers who did a sterling job all weekend and of course all of our visitors who graced our doors.

I'm just gonna dump all the pics for you to enjoy.
I'll put the railway ones first but in no particular order.
Bus ones in the second post and there will be a few videos mashed together at some point too.

Normal service will resume on Wednesday 😉

Is it a bus? Is it a train? Its both!
For the first time at the SVBM open weekend, we'll have a bus on the tracks at Lathalmond this weekend! Come and ride on RB004, the experimental railbus built with a Leyland National body. Rail replacement service running both days 1100-1200 and 1500-1600!

A wee bit of Railbus love today, got the sandpaper and the paintbrushes out to give RB004 a wee pep up for the weekend, looking better already....
