Culross offers a unique look into the past. You can wander the cobbled streets and imagine the girdles being made, the coal mining, the salt panning and the hustle and bustle of a thriving 17th-century port on the River Forth. Explore the beautiful refurbished Palace which dates from 1597 - imagine what it would have been like to live within the splendid interiors, featuring painted woodwork, and 17th- and 18th-century furniture. Take a Town Tour and see the Town House which was once the legal and commercial centre for the town - upstairs, the fine Georgian interior of the council chambers often houses exhibitions, whilst next door is the old courtroom. The Study is where Bishop Leighton of Dunblane reputedly composed his sermons, and can offer a stunning view of the Forth

The palace garden is full of herbs, fruit and vegetables (available to buy in season), which visitors can roam round, hopefully also meeting our dumpy hens! Visit Bessie's Tearoom to taste yummy home made treats.

🎨The Painted Chamber at Culross Palace is more than just decoration. This remarkable ceiling features 16 allegorical paintings inspired by a popular 16th century emblem book. Accompanied by Latin mottos and Scots verses the images share lessons about life, family, faith, success and the passing of time. Among them are classical figures such as Flora, alongside symbolic scenes designed to spark reflection and conversation.

🌻 Culross Palace and Gardens are open daily throughout October, from 10am until 4pm.
🌞 Please note that the last entry to the Palace in October is at 3pm, so allow plenty of time to explore the historic rooms, garden and surrounding village.
🌾 October is a wonderful time to discover Culross, with the changing season adding a different atmosphere to this remarkable historic place.

🗝️ Inside the Lairds Room of Culross Palace is a room built for security.
📜 The stone vaulted strong room was designed to protect Sir George Bruce’s important papers and valuables. Its thick stone walls, heavy doors and vaulted construction made it a protected space from fire and intruders!
✨ Today you can look into this fascinating room and imagine the wealth and documents once kept safely within its walls as Sir George Bruce sat studiously at his desk.

🕯️ Take your time and take in the atmospheric 17th and 18th century decor, the stories of the families who have called this home and the beauty of the Palace gardens.
🕰️ Culross Palace is open daily throughout September from 10am - 5pm, last entry 4pm and October, 10am–4pm, with last entry at 3pm.
