European Digital Sovereignty vs US digital domination. Well done European tech entreprises! 🎉🇪🇺

The European Parliament has passed a landmark resolution aimed at replacing major U.S. technology companies with domestic alternatives, signaling a definitive push for "digital sovereignty". Spearheaded by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, this move aligns with her January 2026 unveiling of "EU Inc.," a new legal framework designed to help European tech firms scale rapidly and compete directly with Silicon Valley giants like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

The resolution is driven by growing geopolitical anxiety and a desire to end Europe's "technological vassalage" to the United States. Amidst trade tensions and fears of data weaponization by the Trump administration, European governments and enterprises have begun a process dubbed "geopatriation"—moving critical digital workloads from U.S. hyperscalers to local providers. The initiative specifically targets the dominance of the "Big Five" (Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, Microsoft) by promoting a "EuroStack" of independent technologies in cloud computing, AI, and chips.

BREAKING | U.S.–EU TRADE & GEOPOLITICAL CRISIS
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced new 10 % tariffs on imports from eight European countries — Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and the United Kingdom — starting February 1, in response to their opposition to his bid to acquire or exert control over Greenland. These levies are set to rise to 25 % on June 1 unless a deal on Greenland is reached, according to Trump’s post on Truth Social.

EU Reaction & Emergency Meeting:
EU leaders have condemned the threats, warning they risk a “dangerous downward spiral” in transatlantic relations and undermining mutual prosperity. In response to the escalation, EU ambassadors from all 27 Member States will hold an emergency meeting to coordinate a response.

UEF STATEMENT:
This episode underscores that the Greenland crisis isn’t just a trade spat — it’s a test of Europe’s political maturity and unity as a Union. External powers should not be allowed to turn sovereign European territories and alliances into bargaining chips. The EU must stand united to defend European sovereignty, democratic processes, and geopolitical autonomy.

Exactly this. An invisible undeclared weaponisation and opportunistic attacks are being adopted to push a new global agenda for economic dominance.

No one is ever above the rule of law.

Germany called on the United States to clarify the legal and political basis for its actions in Venezuela. The statement reflects growing concern among European governments over the lack of transparency surrounding recent developments.

Berlin emphasized the importance of international law, accountability, and clear justification when major powers act beyond their borders. Such explanations are seen as essential to maintaining trust among allies.

European leaders are increasingly wary of unilateral moves that could escalate tensions or set difficult precedents. Questions over authorization, evidence, and proportionality remain central to the debate.

Germany’s response highlights internal differences within Western alliances on how crises should be handled. Alignment on goals does not always translate into agreement on methods.

The call for clarification underscores broader unease about stability in Latin America and the global implications of interventionist actions. How the US responds may shape diplomatic relations in the weeks ahead.
