Pension Age Disability Payment is for disabled people or those with a long-term health condition that means they need help looking after themselves or supervision to stay safe.

It is available to people of State Pension age and is also available to pensioners who are terminally ill.

For many people the devastation of a terminal diagnosis is quickly followed by worries about paying the bills.

Our disability benefits are here to help.

People who are terminally ill are entitled to the highest rate of our disability benefits – Child Disability Payment, Adult Disability Payment and Pension Age Disability Payment.

They can also have their application for support fast-tracked through the system by applying through our dedicated terminal illness process.

Best Start Grant School Age Payment is paid automatically to those who already receive Scottish Child Payment.

But some people still need to apply.

Applications are now open to those who:

✅ don’t qualify for Scottish Child Payment but get Housing Benefit.

✅ have opted out of automatic Best Start Grant payments

✅ are under 19 and dependent on someone else who gets benefits for you

If you're currently receiving Scottish Child Payment you will receive a text when we're checking eligibility and we will send a letter to let you know if you will get the payment automatically.

Scottish Child Payment is a weekly payment of £28.20 and helps balance family costs if you get Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits.

You can get the payments for as many children as you look after if you are their parent or main carer - including kinship carers.

If you are receiving certain DWP benefits and move to Scotland from England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will need to reapply for financial support.

In Scotland:

➡️ Attendance Allowance has been replaced by Pension Age Disability Payment
➡️ DLA for adults has been replaced by Scottish Adult DLA
➡️ Personal Independence Payment has been replaced by Adult Disability Payment
➡️ Carer’s Allowance has been replaced by Carers Support Payment
➡️ DLA for children has been replaced by Child Disability Payment

To continue receiving support after moving to Scotland, you must urgently:

➡️ tell your current benefit provider about your move
➡️ apply to Social Security Scotland for the relevant benefit

Our phonelines and webchat will be closed on Monday 25 May because of the bank holiday. They will reopen at 8am on Tuesday 26 May.

If you're due a payment on Monday 25 May, you will usually receive it by the end of Friday 22 May.

You can still apply for our benefits online at any time and find answers to most questions at mygov.scot/benefits
