We were delighted that Depute Lord Provost Nadia El-Nakla was able to visit our event at Greenfield Academy this week and see the pupils trying out traditional skills including stonemasonry and joinery. David F Wilson was also in attendance demonstrating crafting with stone - check out the International Festival of Stone 2026 to learn more. STV News stopped by too and interviewed some of the pupils about their experience of the day.

We can't wait to hear Dundonians' memories of using trams. Oral history recordings paired with objects are a great way to bring the past to life.

☎️❤️ Some of the most important parts of our upcoming tram exhibition aren’t objects - they’re memories.

Research for Oor Trams: Dundee’s Tram Era Remembered began by speaking to Dundonians who remembered using the city’s trams, including one former tram driver. These oral history recordings helped shape the exhibition and preserve memories from a disappearing era of Dundee life.

Inside the exhibition, visitors will be able to pick up one of these original 1950s telephones and listen to clips from those interviews.

From this summer onwards, Dundee Museum of Transport will also be expanding its Oral History archive and is looking for people who would like to share their memories for future generations.

📍 Oor Trams: Dundee’s Tram Era Remembered opens 8 June at Dundee Museum of Transport.

This exhibition is kindly supported by the Dundee Historic Environment Trust.

Check out this video for a quick look at the sights and sounds of slating, joinery and stonemasonry at our successful Build Your Future event this week. It was great to see the pupils from Greenfield Academy getting involved in all the activities and learning about traditional construction skills. Thanks to our partners Historic Environment Scotland, Developing the Young Workforce, Tay Cities, Skills Development Scotland, The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee and Duffy Roofing who made it all possible.
