Take a Break Grants – Now Open
A reminder that the Take a Break Scotland grant is now open for applications. This funding can support parents and carers of disabled or seriously ill children (0–17) to access a short break or time for themselves.
Grants can be used flexibly – from day trips and travel to activities or support at home.

Take a Break Scotland provides cash grants to parents caring for disabled and seriously ill children and young people, aged 0 to 17.



The grant can be used for things like day trips, a short break away, travel costs, additional carer, gardening and home entertainment equipment, and much more. It aims to improve unpaid carers' quality of life and wellbeing by supporting them to access a break from the day-to-day routine of caring.

Rosie, YPU Service Manager was excited to attend this YPI (Youth Philanthopy Initiative) event at Greenfield Academy, Dundee this week. The team of young people did a tremendous job - thank you so much!

Rosie asked the team for suggestions as to how we might use some of the donation for patient benefit. They suggested cinema trips, going out for coffee and theatre/panto trips at Christmas time.

Thanks also to colleagues at NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation for supporting this initiative 😊🤩

This week in our Deciders Skills Group, our young people explored PACE & PLAN – a helpful emotional regulation skill that supports balance, energy, and wellbeing.

With the lovely weather on our side, we took learning outdoors for an “Alfresco Deciders” session.☀️🌞

We chatted about the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, thinking about how different paces can affect our mood, energy, and goals.

We also broke down the acronyms:
PACE – Play, Achieve, Care, Energy
PLAN – Prepare, List, Action, Notice

A great session full of fresh air, reflection, and discussion—helping young people build practical skills they can use every day 😊
