NHS Tayside celebrated the contribution of its many volunteers with a series of activities during Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June).
Special events were held at Ninewells Hospital, Angus House and Perth Royal Infirmary with certificates given to recognise the achievements of volunteers with 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 years service. Special recognition was given to one volunteer who reached 45 years of volunteering.
Mary McLennan has volunteered as a floral artist at Roxburghe House for 45 years, creating impressive displays for patients and visitors to enjoy.
A number of staff members shared their appreciation for volunteers throughout the week on NHS Tayside’s social media channels.
The volunteering services team at Ninewells had a stand on the main concourse throughout the week and welcomed volunteers from third sector partner organisations that support NHS Tayside, including Tayside Cancer Support, Bridge fm, Finding your Feet, Blood Bikes Scotland, Ninewells Community Garden, Radio Lollipop and Therapet. NHS Tayside's Public Partners Network also took part with their own information stall.
There are over 500 active volunteers across NHS Tayside carrying out many roles including welcome guides, patient transport, health walk leaders, gardeners, flower arrangers, listening volunteers and breastfeeding buddies.
Volunteer services manager Val Ewan said, "Our volunteers are appreciated all year round, but during Volunteers' Week we want to take an extra opportunity to say thank you to them for gifting their time to NHS Tayside. People volunteer with us for lots of different reasons and each person who volunteers makes a difference to our services.”
