We are absolutely delighted to share that Kids Ahoy has been graded Very Good across all three areas of our recent Care Inspectorate inspection:
Leadership, Children Play & Learn, and Children Are Supported to Achieve.

The report highlighted our “strong leadership and effective systems,” a “skilled, supported staff team,” and a “caring, inclusive and well‑organised environment where children thrive.” Inspectors recognised that children are “confident, curious learners” who benefit from “rich, responsive and child‑led play experiences.”

Most importantly, they noted that children feel “safe, valued and supported through warm relationships and responsive care.”

A huge thank you to our incredible team, your dedication, professionalism and nurturing practice shine through every day. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved together.

And a big thank you to the families who have trusted in us to care for their children and spoke so highly of the service to the inspectors 💛

🌿 Strengthening Our Practice Through Ongoing Training 🌿

At Kids Ahoy and Land Ahoy, we understand how deeply early relationships shape a child’s sense of safety, confidence, and belonging. Our team is committed to creating environments where babies feel held, understood, and nurtured and where families feel supported every step of the way.

Over recent months, our staff have completed breastfeeding accreditation, and our baby room team have now taken part in baby‑wearing training, deepening our knowledge of attachment theory and responsive care. These skills help us ensure that every child in our care experiences comfort, connection, and attuned relationships. A special thank you and mention goes to the Sling Library in Dumfries, they were incredibly supportive and helpful throughout.

💛 We remain dedicated to continuous learning, reflective practice, and supporting babies and families with warmth, respect, and expertise.

Wishing all of our children a wonderful first day of school. This new chapter brings lots of new and exciting adventures to you and your families and we are incredibly proud to have been apart of your journey so far. We are looking forward to hearing all about it from those of you coming to us for after school. Our babies and toddlers have had a fantastic summer here at Kids Ahoy, sunshine, outdoor learning, messy play, and endless opportunities to explore what interests them most. The garden has been buzzing with activity, and the children have thrived with the freedom to learn through play.

As we prepare for the new term, some of our children have been enjoying transition visits to the Outdoor Nursery. They’ve taken it all in their stride and are excited for their next adventure!

Because several children are moving up, we’re delighted to share that morning spaces are now available in our baby and toddler rooms. If you’re considering a place for your child, this is a lovely time to join us.

This is free to you, funded by the Scottish Government and local authorities like us. Wow! What a start to Land Ahoy Holiday Club! 🦫🏰 We have thoroughly enjoyed our Nature Week and are currently loving exploring the history of our town in History Week. Some of the highlights have been fossil finding within our own woodland site, visits to Caerlaverock Castle, Mabie Forest, Lincluden Abbey, Camera Obscura and learning about the marks that little bugs and critters leave behind them. Have a look at the spider web we found amongst the dew in the grass! 🕸 We also loved our scavenger hunts for different breeds of birds and locating the eggs that each of them lay 🐥.

In open fields and woodland air,
The children wandered everywhere
Through sunlit days and puddled ground,
New wonders waiting to be found.

They climbed, they splashed, they learned to roam,
The forest floor became their home.
With every season’s shifting hue,
Their confidence and courage grew.

Now as we close our outdoor year,
We send our leavers off with cheer
Carrying nature’s calm and light,
Into the world, brave, bold, and bright.
