Music in the Mausoleum

Burns Mausoleum, St Michael’s Churchyard, Dumfries

The final resting place of Robert Burns and his wife Jean Armour. A beautiful Grecian style building set in an atmospheric churchyard.

Step inside Burns’ Mausoleum and hear it filled with his music sung by local choir The Dumfries Radicals and harper Wendy Stewart.

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm and experience this poignant setting with its beautiful acoustics.

The venue is small so only a few people will be able to enter at a time.

A fine selection of owls in Dumfries Museum's Celebrating Girlguiding exhibition. Each was used by Brownie units. Not long left to see this exhibition - last day to see September 13th.

We've put these fantastic items from Wamphray on display in Dumfries Museum just in time for
They date from c.700-800AD and were likely to have originally been Christian sacred objects. They seem to have been repurposed by Norse peoples and may have formed part of a Viking burial.

You can get up close with this incredible dollshouse this Saturday when we will be opening more of it up and inviting visitors to select objects to explore more closely. It is usually protected behind glass (with good reason!) but our staff will be available to provide an exclusive look on the hour for Doors Open Days

Anne McEntegart (1905-1984) was a talented artist who worked in a variety of media. After World War Two, she settled in Dunscore.
This display focuses on her time in Singapore and the bust and statue she created of her son John's amah. At this time, she also illustrated Readers to help children learn English and a Cookery Book of Malaya (also shown here).
Anne's work is part of a larger display on Childhood within Dumfries Museum - available to view until October.

One week to go! You're invited to join us on Sunday 6th September between 2 and 4 for Music in Burns' Mausoleum.
The inside of the last resting place of Scotland's bard shows Burns being struck by his muse while at the plough. Such a beautiful and inspiring place and experiencing music in it promises to be something special.
Robert Burns loved song and we plan to honour him and enjoy this special place as part of Doors Open Days Dumfries and Galloway
Free, no need to book. The interior is small so only a few people will be able to access at a time.
