Join Art Tour/Deaf Guide Trudi Collier for a BSL tour of CAMPLE LINE's summer exhibitions: Murmuration by Majd Abdel Hamid and The warp and woof of my self by Katie Schwab.

The tour runs 2–3pm, followed by time for tea and a chat. A free minibus transfer is available between Dumfries and CAMPLE LINE. Please contact CAMPLE LINE by 26 August if transport assistance is required.

On Saturday 29 August, 2–3.30pm, we’re very pleased to be welcoming Art Tour/Deaf Guide Trudi Collier back to CAMPLE LINE for a BSL tour of our current summer exhibitions. Trudi has worked with arts and heritage organisations across Scotland since 2017, creating accessible tours and events for deaf BSL users.

The exhibition tour will run from 2–3pm, followed by an opportunity to have a cup of tea and chat together until 3.30pm.

The tour will explore our two current exhibitions:

Majd Abdel Hamid, Murmuration
Majd's exhibition brings together embroidery and textile works exploring memory, migration, trauma and repair. His work is rooted in the possibilities of making and gifting, and in the ways that textiles can carry personal histories and memories.

Katie Schwab, The warp and woof of my self
Katie's exhibition brings together textiles, ceramics, wood and moving image, exploring personal and social histories of craft, design and education. Her work looks at relationships between making, learning, domestic life and wider histories of production and labour.

The event is free, but booking is essential (see booking link below)

A free minibus transfer is available between Dumfries and CAMPLE LINE, connecting with trains from Edinburgh/Carlisle and the X74 bus from Glasgow. Anyone needing transport assistance should let us know by 26 August.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) supports people with the extra costs of a disability or long-term health condition and it is currently under review. The steering group behind The Timms Review now wants disabled people to apply to participate in a series of workshops throughout September and October to provide feedback on draft recommendations. Decisions on these recommendations are then expected to be announced in late Autumn. The deadline to apply for the workshops is Friday 21st August. Terra Sarda W**es is a small Sardinian w**e company based in Yorkshire that have a big ambition to provide all of the w**es they sell with braille labels. It currently includes the braille labels on demand on three of their range. Terra Sarda isn't the first w**e company to do this, but the inspiration came from hearing Brandon Hulcoop from transcription service All Things Dotty on the In Touch programme. Brandon and Sue Scott from Terra Sarda W**es tell us how their partnership developed.

We have put together a selection of resources that were made specifically for teachers and educators, but are widely relevant, especially for parents and carers who either homeschool their child with cerebral visual impairment (CVI, sometimes called cortical visual impairment), or want to understand more about the different processes and approaches so they can contribute to and improve support in school.

One study showed that the vast majority of teachers have never heard of CVI, which can leave parents and carers doing much of the heavy lifting when it comes to explaining CVI and what their child needs.

The resources include courses, comprehensive guides to functional visual assessment, teaching strategies, videos, simulations and more. Many have been kindly shared with us by leading organisations and experts in the field.

Everything is free, available online or to download, with nothing to sign up to.

RNIB is pleased to announce this exciting opportunity to join our Eye Care Support Service in Dumfries & Galloway. This is a rewarding role providing the right individual the opportunity to make a difference every day working with people affected by sight loss.

You will provide critical emotional support, information and guidance face to face within a hospital setting, remotely via digital platforms and in community locations, as required. Each day you will support people affected by sight loss to identify their needs, access information and make informed choices which enable and empower them to maintain their independence.

Admin tasks are a large part of this role, you will create and input accurate patient records into a variety of databases and use Microsoft 365 each day.
