The Cabin

The Cabin The Committee hold regular meetings (every 4-6 weeks approx.) to which all parents are invited.

The Cabin is a Community Group that is owned and managed by the parents of the children on the Register, and is in Partnership with The Moray Childcare Partnership andThe Moray Council. Representatives of the parents are elected to a Committee to serve as office bearers, who oversee the day-to-day running of the Centre and are the employers of the staff. Your views are welcomed on such matters as

ideas for outings, new equipment, fundraising, play ideas etc. In August 2013 we changed our name from Dufftown Preschool Centre to The Cabin to promote our position of providing 2s group, nursery and out of school care. The Group is registered with The Scottish Commission for The Regulation Of Care
(Social Care Social Work Improvement Scotland) and is a member of Care and learning Alliance. At the moment The Cabin consists of

โ€ข Nursery (Monday to Friday 8.50-2.50)

Aims and objectives

1. Provide a safe, clean, well-organised environment which gives children the opportunity to learn and become independent within a well structured group.
2. Enable parents/guardians to continue in their employment confident in the knowledge that their children are being cared for in the way that they would wish.
3. Maintain good quality care providing a wide and varied range of activities.
4. Ensure that our equal opportunities policy is put into practice at all times.
5. Identify and provide relevant training for staff, including that required to meet SSSC requirements
6. Respect and involve parents in the care and education of their child. The Centre offers a wide range of play activities to the children at each session. Allowing the children to participate in many play activities and learning experiences, giving them help and encouragement along the way will achieve the aims

The Cabin recognizes that all children and adults are different with differing needs and abilities, but all are equally valuable. The group aims to allow everyone to reach their full potential, free from attitudes that would limit development. We hope to achieve this by ensuring the play environment and play activities are non-discriminatory and provide positive images of all the children and adults living in our society.

End of term post

Itโ€™s hard to believe weโ€™ve already reached the end of Term 3. After a delayed start to the school year due to the snow, we now find ourselves reflecting on what has been a busy and productive term since returning after Christmas. โ„๏ธ

In January, we enjoyed our first visit of the new year to Aigan Court, At this time the children showed great enthusiasm
and interest in dinosaurs so we took some dinosaurs and enjoyed decorating them with our Aigan Court friends. ๐Ÿฆ•

It was lovely to welcome the ladies from Outfit Moray back for another Bikeability session. Itโ€™s fantastic to see the children growing in confidence on their bikes while learning new skills. ๐Ÿšฒ

This term, we have been learning about childrenโ€™s rights and what they mean in everyday life. We have been exploring how all children have the right to feel safe, be heard and be respected. Through our weekly activities, we have been helping children understand how to keep themselves safe when out in the community, such as recognising safe places and knowing who to ask for help. By linking these experiences to their rights, we are supporting children to grow in confidence, make informed choices and understand that their wellbeing and voice are important. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿง’โ€๐Ÿง’๐Ÿšธ

We have changed up our Lunch Time routine, to promote independence through self service. We have split into tables of 4, all now in theme with 5 of our SHANARRI characters!! ๐ŸŒˆ we have all been assigned to a character, and we will be sat on their tables for lunch.

We have our new self serving dishes, encouraging us to serve our own lunch, the children are really enjoying this new lunchtime routine and we are seeing so many benefits from it, the children are eating more of the foods they like and we are seeing so much less food waste ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

We had a wonderful trip to Elgin, travelling by service bus. During our visit, we stopped at the library where the children thoroughly enjoyed storytime with the librarian. We then made our way to the new STEM centreโ€”what an incredible facility! With its wide range of open-ended resources, it provided the perfect environment for exploration and creativity. The children had an absolute blast!
We also enjoyed a shopping trip in Elgin, where we visited Pets at Home to buy some new fish and snails to keep Chris and Mickey company, and had a browse in Sports Direct for new footballs. This was a great opportunity for the children to learn about and explore the concept of money. ๐Ÿงช ๐Ÿงฎ ๐Ÿ“•

We celebrated Chinese New Year with a spectacular Chinese dragon display, which both the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience and learn about how different cultures celebrate. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ

We have introduced โ€œSpecial Guest Timeโ€ into our weekly routine, giving parents, carers, grandparents, and other family members a lovely opportunity to share a story or sing a song with the children. Thank you for supporting our Special Guest Time and helping create wonderful experiences for the children. ๐ŸŒณThe children are really enjoying this special time.

We had a great time at Aigan Court finding the Easter egg chicks ๐Ÿฃ.The children loved running around searching for them. Thank you to Aigan Court for such a fun experience!

We had a great visit to Craigellachie Primary School to visit their pond ๐Ÿธ๐ŸŒฟ. The children loved exploring the frog spawn and learning about life cycles in a real outdoor environment. They were fantastic on the bus and showed excellent listening and safety skills throughout. Thank you Craigellachie Primary School.๐Ÿซ

What a wonderful way to finish the term! We enjoyed a fantastic Easter stay-and-play session with parents and grandparents. ๐Ÿฃ

We started our community rock snake up to our outdoor classroom in Megโ€™s Widd so we can continue adding to it whenever we like. If you'd like to contribute, please feel free to add a rock to our snake - let's see just how big it can grow! ๐Ÿ

The children had so much fun exploring a range of activities, including wheeled toys, decorating Easter eggs and bonnets, engaging in a STEM activity and getting creative with playdough. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a special experience! ๐Ÿฃ

At The Cabin, self-evaluation is central to maintaining high-quality care and learning. As a team, we regularly reflect on our practice, celebrating strengths and identifying areas for improvement, with childrenโ€™s experiences and voices at the heart of everything we do.

This term, we have strengthened our practice through targeted professional training, including Emotion Coaching, Early Talk Boost, Makaton for Early Years and the Rights of the Child, with some staff also completing CALMS training. These approaches support childrenโ€™s communication, emotional wellbeing and ensure every child feels included, respected and able to express their needs, helping us continue to improve outcomes for children and families.

We had an egg-cellent Easter-themed Stay and Play with our families! It was wonderful to see everyone and to watch your creativity shine through with your child. ๐Ÿฃ

This term has been full of exciting celebrations!

We enjoyed Pancake Day, World Book Day, and Red Nose Day, as well as celebrating traditions ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ โ˜˜๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ with fun crafts and activities.

We also loved our Easter stay-and-play with families, a visit to Craigellachie Primary Schoolโ€™s pond, and spending time at Aigan Court.

What a fantastic and busy term it has been! We hope everyone has a lovely Easter ๐Ÿฃ
