📵 September 2026 - Bishop Milner Catholic College will be a mobile phone free zone from 8.50am until 3.20pm 📵
Phone pouches are being introduced to all Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students at Bishop Milner.
Why?
Using a phone pouch helps create a more controlled and focused learning environment, addressing many of the challenges mobile phones introduce in the classroom and during social time (Break and Lunch).
* Boost learning and focus – Helps students stay engaged and reduces disruption and distraction during lessons
* Improve behaviour – Cuts down on bullying, phone-related conflicts and hidden misuse
* Improve safeguarding – Prevents access to social media, messaging and camera use during the college day
* Strengthen social skills – Encourages face-to-face interaction and reduces reliance on screens
* Combat cheating – Removes the ability for students to cheat in class and exams, which is increasingly important with the rise of AI-based apps
* When policy alone is not enough – “Phones off and in a bag” does not work for an increasing number of students. Students can still access devices, and enforcement is impractical without a physical barrier
❗️More information will follow over the next 6 weeks in the form of letters and emails to parents, assemblies to students and notifications on social media. Please refrain from asking any further questions via Facebook as it is not monitored at all times. We hope the initial Q&A’s below are helpful.❗️
We trust parents and families will support our decision as a college.
