When was your last risk assessment actually reviewed—not just given a new date?

Changing the review date doesn’t make a risk assessment current.

New equipment, different staff, altered layouts, new substances and changes in working methods can all leave a perfectly tidy document describing a workplace that no longer exists.

A useful risk assessment should:

• Reflect how the task is genuinely carried out
• Identify who could be harmed and how
• Include controls people understand and follow
• Lead to action where something needs improving
