You've never experienced true tension until you've played on-call chicken with the Aldi* checkouts. 😬

It's caught a few of us out more than once but it's a way of life that is never dull!
One minute you're waiting for your middle aisle swag to scan, the next you're running away from a confused cashier and turning out to someone in desperate need of rescue.

So if you're missing some intensity in your life then we're recruiting on call firefighters at Dronfield.

We're particularly interested in recruiting people who can provide fire cover in the daytime. Maybe you work from home? Or you can commit to responding to fire calls from your place of work? You'll have to be no further than 5 minutes drive away from Dronfield Fire Station during these times.

We attended an RTC outside The Sandpiper this evening, 1 female with minor injuries was extricated from a vehicle on its side and was left in the care of EMAS.

The road remained closed when we left the scene at 2130 whilst the police arranged recovery of the vehicle.

Chief Fire Officer, Chief Executive Rob Taylor

It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the death of our friend, colleague and Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Rob Taylor who passed away following a short and sudden illness yesterday evening (Wednesday 10 September 2025).

The thoughts and condolences of everyone across the Service are with Rob’s family and friends at this time.

Rob joined Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) in 2008 following a transfer from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. He began his career in Derbyshire as a firefighter at Buxton Fire Station. Since 2008, Rob’s passion to take the Service forward shone through in all of the promotions he gained; In August 2021 Rob was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Office, and in February this year he proudly took his position as the Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive of the Service.

The Service is offering support to all of its employees and providing support to Rob’s family.

Book of condolence.
An online book of condolences for Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Rob Taylor will be opened on the Service website in the next 24 hours. Further details will be communicated.

Privacy for the family.
The Service respectfully requests that Rob’s family and friends are given the privacy they need at this distressing time.

Contingency and Resilience.
The Fire and Rescue Authority has made interim arrangements and has appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mick Sharman as acting Chief Fire Officer, and Area Manager Clive Stanbrook continues as acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

One female has been conveyed to hospital with minor injuries

Three of our On-call firefighters from Dronfield Fire Station - Luke Prest, Phil Morton and Josh Harris - are set to tackle the Peak District Ultra this weekend to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The route? A continuous 100km (62 mile) figure-of-eight starting and finishing in Bakewell, with a goal to complete it in under 24 hours! 💪

They’ve already smashed their fundraising goal — but they’re not stopping there.
