🌞 May Bank Holiday
Whether you're heading to the pub, a garden party, or escaping to the countryside - make it a weekend to remember for the right reasons.

Top tips to keep it fun (not flammable):
👉 Starting early with a few cheeky drinks? Leave the late-night cooking to the pros. Grab a tasty takeaway instead and give your kitchen a break!

👉 Out enjoying the countryside?
Dry weather means fires can spread fast and cause serious damage to wildlife, property and people.
✔️ Skip the campfires
✔️ Stub out ci******es properly
✔️ Take your litter home
🚫 Leave the disposable BBQ at home – a picnic is safer and just as tasty!

If you see someone starting fires, do the right thing. Report it anonymously to Firestoppers:

On Friday, we proudly attended the service’s passing-out parade, with our latest recruit Cameron who showcased the skills he developed throughout his initial training period.

He has worked exceptionally hard and excelled in every aspect of his training. All of us at Driffield wish him the very best as he begins the next chapter of his career in the service actively responding to incidents. 🚒🔥

If this is something you would be interested in doing and want to give back to your community, learning new skills and working as a team then please contact the station and we can talk you through the process of becoming an on- call firefighter.

🚒 Think Before You Park 🚒

When vehicles are parked on both sides of a street, fire engines and other emergency vehicles often cannot get through. Every second counts in an emergency - blocked access could mean the difference between life and death.

✅ Park responsibly:
• Leave enough space for large vehicles to pass
• Observe parking signage and road markings
• Avoid double parking or mounting pavements
• Check before leaving your vehicle

Your actions could make all the difference.

This time of year is one of the busiest for our crews.

The safest way to enjoy Bonfire Night is by attending an organised firework display - it’s safer and saves you the clean-up afterwards!

✅ Our safety reminders:
• Never use Bonfire Night to burn rubbish - take it to your local council’s waste and recycling centre.
• Store wheelie bins securely to prevent deliberate fire setting.
• Report fly-tipping to your local council.

🎆 If you are planning fireworks at home:
• Buy fireworks with the UKCA mark from reputable sellers.
• Keep fireworks in a closed box.
• Follow the instructions on each firework.
• Light fireworks at arm's length.
• Stay a safe distance once they’re lit.
• Never go back to a lit firework.
• Never throw fireworks.
• Fireworks cannot be set off in public streets or places.
• Think of pets and wildlife - keep noise low, timing considerate and pets indoors.

From all of us at the station have a great bonfire night! 🔥
