Fort Burgoyne

Fort Burgoyne The Fort was built in the 1860s, to protect Dover Castle. Managed by White Cliffs Countryside Partnership on behalf of Land Trust

Fort Burgoyne was acquired by the Land Trust early in 2014, with plans to restore this unique site and open it to the public for the first time in its history. Fort Burgoyne will be a welcome addition to the community and visitor attractions in Dover and beyond.

Is it a humming bird, a hawk or a moth?
It’s all 3.. Kind of.
Say hello to the Hummingbird Hawk-Moth. A day flying moth seen throughout the summer months. We’re quite lucky to have so many of them here at Fort Burgoyne, and even luckier to capture a video of one!

The Fort Burgoyne Open Day is TOMORROW!

Please read the information below 👇

It is going to be a hot day, and as we are such an old site, we do not have suitable drinking water on site, please bring plenty with you for the day!

There is free parking available on site, our volunteers will guide you to the parking area, but please be aware of pedestrians on site and keep to 5 mph.

We do welcome dogs on site, however they must be kept on a lead and cleared up after. Dogs unfortunately will not be allowed on the guided tours to the lower levels. Please consider your pets welfare with the hot weather.

There will not be catering options at this event, but there are plenty of places for you to enjoy a picnic in the nice weather, so please feel free to bring lunch along with you.

See you tomorrow from 10 am!

🌿 Important Notice 🌿

As we head into Summer, we’d like to remind visitors that swimming is NOT permitted at any of our sites and to take precautions to prevent fires, helping us protect both people and the natural environment.

During dry conditions, our green spaces and wildlife are more vulnerable, so we kindly ask everyone to take extra care when visiting:
❌ Please don’t enter the water
❌ Do not use BBQs
❌ Do not light bonfires or campfires
🔥 Report any signs of fire by calling 999

These actions help safeguard local habitats, protect wildlife, and keep our spaces safe for everyone to enjoy. The wellbeing of our visitors and the natural environment is always our priority, so please plan ahead and take care during hot weather.

For weather updates, visit the Met Office website.

We've been noticing some increased activity from our local Kestrels here at the Fort!

They seem to be eyeing up a particular area and are spending lots of time chattering away to each other. We'll be keeping an eye on them from a safe distance to see if we have a nesting pair.

It seems to be a female and a first year male, judging by their plumage, and if you remember from last year, we had a first year male Black Redstart breed with us here. We're thrilled to know these young birds feel safe enough to consider raising a brood with us 🩷

Stay tuned, as we'll be posting updates as we can!
