✏️ 📝 ✍️ From pencil to pen, every child’s journey is filled with practice, progress and mistakes along the way.
Having supported children in primary education, I remember the joy and pride that came when a child progressed from using a pencil to being awarded their pen licence. It was more than just writing with a pen, it was a moment of confidence, growth and celebration, not only for the child but also for the parents and teaching staff who had watched their hard work unfold.
I often reminded children that having a pen licence did not mean they would never make mistakes. We all make mistakes, even the adults supporting them in the classroom. The important lesson was that mistakes may be harder to erase, but they are never impossible to learn from.👏🏾
As parents, carers, and professionals, our role is not to judge too quickly, but to come alongside children with:
✏️Patience to learn
✍️Support without shame
📝Guidance when mistakes happen, not physical or emotional harm, not comparison
✍️Adults who apologise and model growth
When we model humility, apologise when we get things wrong, and support children to try again, we teach them that mistakes are not the end of the story, they are part of growth.
Bridging cultures or not, let’s raise children who are not afraid:
🫶To try
🫶To learn
🫶To correct and
🫶To grow
Today, choose encouragement over judgement, compassion over criticism, and model what you want to see in your children.✨️
