🍎 Community Apple Pressing Days 2026 🍏

Charminster Parish Council is pleased to be holding two community apple pressing afternoons this autumn.

📍 Charlton Down Community Orchard
📅 Sunday 27 September 2026
⏰ 2pm–4pm

📍 Millers Orchard, Mill Lane,
📅 Sunday 4 October 2026
⏰ 2pm–4pm

Everyone is welcome to come along, help pick apples from the orchards and see them turned into fresh apple juice.

🥤 Please bring your own containers if you would like to take some freshly pressed juice home.

All the equipment is available — we just need some willing volunteers to help on the day! No previous experience needed.

😔 Disappointing damage at the Olympic Park

A big thank you to whoever decided it was a good idea to remove the bin near the MUGA, crush it and leave the rubbish on the ground.

The Parish Council carried out its inspection yesterday morning, when the bin was still in place, so this damage has happened overnight.

Unfortunately, this now means another replacement bin will need to be purchased at a cost of around £100 — money that could have been spent on maintaining and improving other community facilities.

The incident will also be reported to the Police for the record.

Please respect the equipment and facilities provided for everyone to enjoy. Deliberate damage like this is unnecessary, frustrating and ultimately costs the whole community.

📢 Parish Councillor Vacancy – North Ward, Charlton Down

Charminster Parish Council currently has a vacancy for a Parish Councillor representing the North Ward – Charlton Down.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in your local community, help represent residents and have a say in the issues and projects that affect Charlton Down and the wider parish.

Parish Councillors come from all walks of life and you do not need any previous council experience. What matters most is an interest in your community and a willingness to get involved.

The notice of vacancy is attached, which explains the statutory process that must now be followed.

🚓 Dorset Police Rural Crime Team – Community Contact Point

The Dorset Police Rural Crime Team will be holding a drop-in Community Contact Point at:

📍 Mole Country Stores, Dorchester, DT1 1ST
📅 Wednesday 2 September 2026
🕑 2.00pm – 3.00pm

This is an opportunity to speak directly with an officer from the Rural Crime Team about any crime, incidents or concerns affecting you or our local rural communities.

There is no need to make an appointment – simply drop in during the session.

If you have a rural crime concern or would like to find out more about the work of the Rural Crime Team, this is a useful opportunity to have a chat with the officers.
