❤️ Today we're proud to support Day! ❤️

Across Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, we're wearing red to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role that research plays in improving healthcare.

Research helps us develop new treatments, enhance patient care, and shape the future of the NHS. Every study, every participant, and every member of our research teams contributes to better outcomes for our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in research across our Trust and to those taking part in studies that help make tomorrow's healthcare better than today's.

Don't forget to share your red photos and join us in celebrating the difference research makes every day.

Did you know that cervical screening can save lives? 💖

Cervical screening (also known as a smear test or Pap test) helps detect abnormal cells in the cervix early—before they turn into cervical cancer. Catching these changes early means treatment is more effective and can prevent cancer from developing!

Why get screened?
✅ Detects abnormal cells early
✅ Helps prevent cervical cancer
✅ Supports your overall reproductive health
✅ Gives you peace of mind

If you’re aged 25-64, regular cervical screening is recommended. Don’t wait—book your test today and take charge of your health!

Meet Chloe, a Healthcare Assistant in the DSA Suite and a Learning Disability Ambassador at Doncaster Royal Infirmary 👋

Chloe's role involves caring for patients and enhancing their overall experience. She said: "I focus on helping patients feel at ease, supporting them while they wait for their procedure, and providing reassurance throughout the process.

"As part of my commitment to patient care, I have created a sensory box to support individuals who may feel anxious or frightened, helping to make their experience more comfortable and less overwhelming.

"The reason I decided to become a Learning Disability Ambassador, is because I am a caring and compassionate person who is passionate about helping others. I find great fulfilment in making a positive difference in people’s lives, and I always strive to go above and beyond to support our patients. I particularly value the opportunity to bring comfort, reassurance, and a smile to those in my care."

Find out about the support available, both through our Learning Disability Ambassadors and the Learning Disability Nurse Liaisons, on the DBTH website: https://www.dbth.nhs.uk/learning-disabilities-dbth/

Celebrating our Estates and Facilities colleagues! ⭐️

Ann Lambert has been caring for patients and supporting colleagues at DBTH for an incredible 39 years.

Starting as a domestic relief worker, Ann has spent decades helping create clean, welcoming environments for patients. Today, she continues to support patients on Rehab 1 at Montagu Hospital, where she takes pride in keeping the ward clean, ensuring patients stay hydrated and sharing a friendly chat with those in her care.

Did you know? In April alone, our wards received 84 boxes of tea bags for ward provisions – enough to make more than 92,000 cups of tea for patients and staff.

Thank you, Ann, for nearly four decades of dedication, kindness and service! 👏

As part of National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, we're shining a light on some of the incredible colleagues who help keep our hospitals running.

Meet Sarah Ashton, who began her journey in Facilities at just 16 years old as a Service Assistant. Twenty years later, she is now a Facilities Manager helping lead services that support patient care across our hospitals.

During her career, Sarah has progressed through a variety of roles, gaining valuable experience and developing her skills, including completing a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship.

"Facilities often works behind the scenes, but the work we do is essential, and I'm proud to be part of a team that truly makes a difference."

Thank you, Sarah, for your commitment, leadership and dedication over the past 20 years. 👏

Did you know? Our shuttle service between Doncaster and Bassetlaw completes 6,072 journeys every year, covering almost 121,440 miles annually, the equivalent of travelling from here to Australia 12 times!

Cervical Screening Awareness Week

This week, we’re shining a light on the importance of cervical screening — a simple, quick test that can save your life.

In England, cervical screening (often called a smear test) is estimated to prevent around 70% of cervical cancer deaths. Even more encouraging if everyone who’s eligible attended their screening regularly, up to 83% of cervical cancer deaths could be prevented. That’s a powerful reason to make it a priority!

We know life gets busy, and it’s easy to forget or postpone your screening appointment. But it only takes a few minutes, just a small moment of your day that can protect your future health. Cervical screening detects abnormal cells early before they develop into cancer. Early detection means early treatment, which is usually more effective and less invasive.
