💚 Sands Lane Clean-Up – Opposite Bank Begins! 💚
This morning, 6 of us – including myself and Leo – gave up our time to make a difference for nature and our community. 🌍✨
We started with a litter pick along Sands Lane, collecting 12 bags of rubbish plus bulky items including parts of a sofa, a cardboard box full of glass, builders’ waste, a car bumper and even 2 doors! 🚪🚗 All of this was removed from site and disposed of correctly. 👏
Along the way we discovered 3 separate fly tips, which will be reported to Kirklees in the hope they’ll be removed soon. 📝♻️
Then came the real challenge… we donned thigh waders and crossed a calm, low River Calder to begin the mammoth task of reclaiming the opposite bank. 🌊💪
Here we gathered tyres, bulky debris, and pulled 3 bags of plastics from the trees. These items have now been piled up, ready to be carried back across the river. 🚮
The state of this banking is truly disgraceful, and it highlights just how badly our river environment is being treated. We want to appeal directly to our community and local businesses – please support us in any way you can. 🙏
👉 To the businesses along Mill Street East: take responsibility for your waste. The health of the river, our wildlife, and our community depends on it. 🐟🌿
