The incident happened at approximately 6.20pm on August 18 – a man assaulted another man on The Green.

Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team has been busy working across the area this month.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the activity carried out by your local officers:

✅ Assist in the arrest and transportation of a suspect breaching the Dispersal Order placed in the Market Place, Devizes.
✅ Dealt with a drunk male in Marlborough High Street causing issues to passers by.
✅ Arrest made for breach of PSPO in the Market Place, Devizes.
✅ Baydon Post Office drop in, discussed concerns with locals.
✅ Consultation at the Owl, Bromham - Spoke with locals.
✅ Assisted with a training exercise of new recruits around Devizes Town Centre.
✅ Attended Floaty Boaty Fair at Honeystreet and Spoke with visitors.
✅ Conducted rural patrols throughout Pewsey & Marlborough, assisted with patrols relating to recent Hare Coursing in the area.
✅ Assisted Response colleagues with RTCs across the county, conducting traffic control.
✅ Attended Woodborough Garden Centre and discussed with the public about crime prevention, antisocial behaviour and early intervention.
✅ Conducted regular patrols of The Market Place, ensuring the PSPO is being upheld. Dealing with any breaches.
❌ If you see anyone breaching the current PSPO, please call 101 and give as much detail as possible in regards to number of people, whether they are drinking alcohol, descriptions of individuals and whereabouts they are located.❌

A closure is currently in place along the A361 Caen Hill, Devizes at the junction for Mayenne Place following a single-vehicle collision.

We have recently received concerning reports about the use of a catapult at The Crammer in Devizes.

A member of the public reported witnessing a group of young males using a catapult and appearing to target ducks resting on the water.

We would like to remind the public of the laws surrounding catapults and slingshots:

• Catapults (slingshots) are legal to own and purchase in the UK. However, carrying one in a public place without a lawful reason may result in prosecution under the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 if it is considered an offensive weapon.

• Using a catapult to harm wildlife or damage property may constitute criminal offences, including breaches of animal welfare legislation, the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the Wild Mammals (Protection) Act 1996, and criminal damage laws.

• Carrying a catapult openly, or without a clear lawful excuse, could lead to it being seized by police and may result in prosecution.

• We ask parents and guardians to be aware of their children's whereabouts and activities, particularly during the school holidays.

Wiltshire Police takes reports of this nature seriously. If you witness someone actively using a catapult to harm wildlife or putting people at risk, please call 999.

We are urging residents to be vigilant following an attempted burglary at an address in Devizes.

At approximately 3.10am on July 30, a man attempted to enter an address in Erghum Lane via a downstairs window.

The man is described as a skinny white male, aged in his 20s, wearing a grey and white jacket, dark trainers and a cross-body bag.

Officers investigating a disorder in Devizes are appealing for witnesses.

We were called to the Market Place by the ambulance service at approximately 1am on July 30 following reports of a disorder.

It is believed at least two men were injured during the incident.

Enquiries are currently ongoing and at this stage, no arrests have been made.

We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident who may be able to provide further information or anyone who may have CCTV footage which could assist.

Message from Devizes Inspector Andy Lemon:

"Whilst on patrol today I have come across a group of adults drinking in the Market Place in Devizes, which is in breach of the Public Safety Protection Order (PSPO).

"Sadly an adult male became verbally aggressive, abusive, and threatening towards myself. He was subsequently arrested for being drunk and disorderly and for Section 5 of the Public Order Act.

"I wish to thank members of the public who were grateful to see police enforcement, but also who checked on my welfare whilst awaiting support to transport the detained person to the custody unit at Melksham Police Station.

"Officers are being asked to enforce the PSPO and where appropriate arrest those who become threatening or abusive to officers in the process. I’m committed to ensuring the order is robustly policed."
