BREAKING: The Government now CANCELS its plans for the abolition of Breckland Council.

From the very beginning, we opposed Local Government Reorganisation, striving to keep local decision-making as close to communities as possible. We defended local services and made sure our residents’ voices were heard.

We welcome the Government’s intention to withdraw its decision, pending a review. We will now demand urgent clarity and pursue the recovery of every penny Breckland taxpayers have been forced to spend on this process.

Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Leader of Breckland Council, said: “Our position has never changed. The current system delivers strong, local and accountable services, and we firmly believe retaining it is in the best interests of Breckland and the wider county.”

Our position is clear: LGR is bad for Breckland and a waste of taxpayers' money. We hope the government doesn’t reignite this subject.

BREAKING: Breckland Council steps in to protect local jobs and keep major investment in the district

Breckland Council has helped prevent a Norfolk business from moving elsewhere, protecting local jobs and securing its long-term future here in Breckland.

Through targeted business rates relief, the company can now invest in a brand-new headquarters in the district, continue to grow and create new employment opportunities for local people. Once built, the new premises will generate thousands of pounds in additional business rates, helping to fund vital local services for years to come.

The Council is clear: we will take whatever decisions in our gift to back local businesses, protect local jobs and put Breckland first.

Come and talk to the team, explore what’s proposed for your area and make sure your views are heard at one of our upcoming Local Plan drop-ins.

This is an important stage in shaping Breckland’s future. The consultation, known as ‘Regulation 19’, is your opportunity to help us check that the Local Plan is right for Breckland – that it is positive and practical, properly justified, can be delivered effectively, and follows national planning policies and rules.

We’re delighted to announce Charlotte Giddings as the host of the Breckland Business Awards on Thursday 10 September!

Co-founder of the multi-award-winning family bakery Brownie and the Bean, Charlotte is a passionate champion of small businesses and a dedicated advocate for all things local.

From her base in Diss, Charlotte has built a nationally successful brand with strong East Anglian roots - using locally grown wheat, free-range eggs and sugar produced just 15 miles away. Her work is a brilliant example of how independent businesses can strengthen their communities, support a circular local economy and showcase the exceptional quality our region has to offer.
