Well that is one way to keep cool in this hot weather 🫣

Caught on camera by one of our Park Rangers, this crow was cooling off in the fountain at Derby Arboretum earlier today.

Although this behaviour is not advisable for humans, we hope you are keeping safe during this current hot spell. We want you to enjoy parks and greenspaces safely so please remember,

🥤Stay hydrated, and seek shade when necessary
👒Remember sun hats and sunscreen and try to avoid the hottest part of the day
🛟Don't swim in rivers, lakes or other bodies of water unless part of an organised and managed activity. There are hidden dangers you might not be aware of
🔥We do not allow BBQ's in our Parks, fires can spread quickly
🗑 If bins are full, please take your rubbish home with you to help keep public spaces clean and safe

An Amber Extreme Heat alert is in place across the East Midlands, with Red forecast for Wednesday. A red alert indicates significant risk to life, where anyone can be affected.

Riders came our in force at Sinfin Park last night as part Derby Mercury RC 's Youth cycle coaching 🚲

Then all you need is your own bike and helmet (and parental consent). Sessions will be held for the next 4 Wednesdays at Sinfin Park from 6.30 - 7.30pm and your first session is completely free!

Did you know that from tonight (Wednesday 17th) you can join in with youth cycle coaching run by Derby Mercury RC ?🚴🚵

Where : Sinfin Park. Meet on the field.

When : Wednesdays (from tonight) for 5 weeks from 18.30-19.30

Even better, your first session is free!!

(then £3.50 each week pay on the night.)

You will need your own bike and helmet, as well as parental consent required.

Once sessions have finished at Sinfin Park, Derby Mecury FC will move on to Chaddesden Park for sessions so keep your eyes peeled for future dates

We’re pleased to share that the Derby Parks team has completed improvements to several footpath sections at Chellaston Park over the past two weeks 🌳🚶‍♂️

The works focused on the play area and nearby paths, ensuring the highest priority areas were resurfaced✔️

These works were funded by the Parks Capital Rolling Programme.

It is UK’s Drowning Prevention week. Do you know the Water Safety Code?

🛟Stop and Think: Assess your surroundings. Identify potential dangers and follow local safety signs and advice.
🛟Stay Together: Always go with friends or family when near water. Swim only at lifeguarded locations.

And In an Emergency:
🛟Call 999: If you're at the coast, request the Coastguard. Never enter the water to perform a rescue.
🛟Float: If you fall in or become tired, stay calm, float on your back, and call for help. If someone else is in trouble, throw something that floats to them.

Why not visit the official opening of the new Special SEND garden on Boulton Lane in Alvaston that has been created by Digging The Dirt Community Garden 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

There will be refreshments available and lots of information stands for SEDN, ADHD and Autism on the day.
