Derby Promise presents: ROOTS

This hands-on marketplace of ideas, skills and possibilities is for young people aged 14-18.

ROOTS encourages young people to explore their interests, build confidence, recognise their strengths, and discover the opportunities available locally. Chat with local employers, organisations and creatives to discover careers, training opportunities, and pathways across Derby – or just grab some information (and some pizza). Whether you've got a plan or no clue yet, ROOTS meets you where you are.

• Reduced music levels
• Reduced capacity
• Water Bucket NOT in operation
• Large separate group changes
• Wristbands not necessary

Learning Disability Annual Health Checks are offered from age 14, but this session is for ANY parent carer who has a child or young person with, or who may have, a learning disability.

No official diagnosis is needed to attend

According to Mencap, a learning disability is a lifelong condition that usually becomes apparent in early childhood. It involves a reduced intellectual ability and can make everyday tasks, like managing money, socialising, household chores or using public transport more challenging.

Children and young people may take longer to learn new skills, understand information or interact with others, and the level of support needed varies from person to person.

If your child has global developmental delay, or you think they may meet this definition, regardless of their age, this session will be really valuable.

We will be exploring:
What the Annual Health Check involves
Why early, proactive and preventative health care matters
How to get added to the GP Learning Disability Register
Eligibility, access and what support looks like in practice

Derby SEND Voice would like to invite parents and carers to their upcoming information session on Learning Disability Annual Health Checks.

The session will focus on the Annual Health Check offered to young people aged 14+ who have a learning disability. However, a formal diagnosis is not required for a young person to access the Annual Health Check or for someone to attend this session.

This workshop will also be valuable for early preparation, even if a child or young person is not yet 14. Gaining an understanding of the process early can help families feel more confident and informed long before Annual Health Checks begin. Parents, carers, and professionals are warmly welcome, whatever the age of the child or young person.

Created by the Derby Promise and partners, Dream Fest is a joyous event encouraging children to explore the skills, sense of community and potential career paths that can be found in the performing arts - all while having a whole heap of fun.

We'd like your feedback for our Community Short Breaks Consultation.

Derby City Council is reviewing its Community Short Breaks Service and proposing some ideas for change.

We want to ask you about these changes and for you to give feedback. This is really important to us as you are the parents and carers of children and young people with SEND who may access this service.

Your views will help us understand the impact of the ideas for change that we are proposing and what you think about the Community Short Breaks Service that you currently receive.

What are Community Short Breaks?
Community Short Breaks are for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who need extra help to take part in activities.
They are for children and young people who:
• cannot join in with universal* activities without support, or
• have more complex needs that cannot be met by universal* services or family support alone
*Universal services are services that are available to all children, young people and their families.
There are two types of Community Short Breaks:
• A grant
• A targeted** service from providers
**Targeted services are for children and young people who may need additional support and may require an assessment of need to access services.
These providers arrange activities and provide additional support to children and young people with SEND to:
• spend time away from home
• relax and have fun
• make new friends
• try new activities and opportunities
• increase independence skills
• build confidence
• learn new skills
• improve health and wellbeing
Activities may take place after school, at weekends, or during school holidays.
Community Short Breaks also support families by giving parents and carers time to rest from caring.
