A little conversation matters

Supporting a young person's mental health doesn't always start with a big conversation.
Sometimes it's noticing they're a bit quieter than usual.
Having a chat while making dinner.
Listening when they want to talk, without pushing when they don't.
Or simply spending some time together.

At Oasis, getting to know the young people we support means we're more likely to notice when something doesn't seem quite right.

And sometimes, a little conversation can be a good place to start.

Hospital Step-Down Support at Oasis

Leaving hospital isn't always the end of someone's need for support.

Oasis provides hospital step-down placements for adults who may need a supported environment as they move on from inpatient care and back into the community.

We consider every referral individually to understand the person's needs and whether Oasis could be the right fit.

We're recruiting in Derby 👋

We're looking for Support Practitioners to join the team at Oasis Care, and we're holding a Recruitment Day on Thursday 17 September at Derby City Council House.

If you're interested in working in care, this is a chance to come along, hear more about Oasis and the role, get some interview guidance and meet us for an interview on the day.

We're looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with others and want to support people to get more from everyday life.

A little look at Burdett House, our solo supported accommodation in Derby.

Burdett House has three self-contained apartments for young people aged 16–18.

Each young person has their own apartment and their own space, with support from the Oasis team when they need it.

For some young people, a shared setting isn't the right environment. Burdett House gives us another option when a young person may be better suited to living on their own, while still having support around them.

What does being ready for adulthood actually look like?

Cooking. Budgeting. Travelling independently. Managing appointments.
They all matter.

But so does finding something you enjoy.
Having your own interests.
Working out what you're good at.
And having people around you who give you the space to explore it.

For some of our young people, that's music, writing lyrics and spending time creating.

Preparing for adulthood isn't only about what a young person can do on their own.
It's also about helping them work out what they want their life to look like.
