Originally designed as part of a chain of coastal artillery defenses it evolved into the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Through this role, past residents have included The Duke of Wellington, William Pitt the Younger, Sir Winston Churchill, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The Castle allows you the chance to explore the rooms, including that where the D
uke of Wellington died. Outside you can explore the stunning gardens including the famous Broadwalk, the kitchen garden, the Queen Mother's Garden, and the woodland walk.
