We are in Australia Brian and my Aussie better half has never heard much about the Falkland War. I’ve just got your book on Kindle and she is already into it. Amazed is an understatement for her vocal excitement. I was in the RN 61-72 so missed it but my brother and a few oppos were down there. May I express my gratitude for your creation of such a story of human decency in an environment we can only wonder about.

On day one of our recent working cruise, at the entertainment staff welcome meeting one of the dance instructors referred to me as a 'bandy'. Now for a civvy to do that showed some insider information so after the meeting I grilled him and slowly he let the cat out of the bag that his brother was a former Royal Marine RSM, scottish and based at Deal, before laughing and telling me his was brother was no other than Graham Dear! Yes we laughed, no he did not teach me any dance steps.

So tomorrow I join another ship as a guest speaker for a cruise to Norway, but the beauty is the ship leaves and returns to Dover, so no flying this time and a ten minute drive to the docks! At the moment I am only scheduled to give one talk, which naturally will be ‘The Band That Went To War’, but I have a couple of spares if needed. I do like being at sea, especially with a function to perform.

A mundane life and mundane job, what better way to lose myself in the real drama of men going to war, but not on a movie set a real war ( whilst also carrying a trumpet trombone and clarinet … not forgetting the drums !) after you finish this book you will find yourself glued to You Tube looking for videos of the Royal Marine bands.. a strikingly moving book written by the author with the stiff upper lip of a working class Brit. Humour helps morph the drama and heart ache and anxieties of a brave brave group of people who spent many a month floating in the great white whale ! This book will be an a joy to read , buy it it’s worth it ….”

Finished my five talks and can relax for the remainder of the trip across the Bay of Biscay. Took a selfy with some of the audience today !

Good morning people, I thought I would share with you that the band that went war is going on tour again, this time on another cruise ship The Aurora. Five presentations in 10 days along with the book signing is not a bad return for my time and a good way to spread the news of the bands great work or there’s many years ago in the south Atlantic !

As valued followers of this page and my book, I try not to pester with constant updates unless there is news. Well, as it happens there is news, as the publishers have agreed demand is such that the book is soon to be released as an audio book. It does appear many people like to 'listen' to a good book whilst doing other things and it also opens up the book to the blind, so good news all around!

Thanks for checking out my page, especially those who I recently met giving my talks aboard the Queen Victoria cruise ship. If any of the new followers would like signed copies of any of my books for themselves, friends or relatives then just drop me a message and I can arrange that. The two books that are relevant to this page are 'The Band That Went To War' about my time in the Falklands war; and 'Royal Marines musicians at war' which tells of the many other non musical military deployments of RM musicians over the years, both according to the reviews pretty good to read!

Currently away on cruise ship giving talks about my books, life and naval history. Abnormal service will resume when I return and some of weight I have gained has been lost or forgotten about!
