πŸ“’ Noticeboard Update – The Strand

Dawlish Town Council has recently installed a brand-new noticeboard on The Strand to help keep our community better informed and connected.

At present, the noticeboard is not yet in use due to a few unresolved installation issues that are currently being addressed.

We’re working to get everything sorted as soon as possible.

βœ… Thank you for your patience while these final details are completed.
πŸ”„ We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information and the board is ready for use.

πŸ“―πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to our Town Crier, Bob Graham, and his Consort, Heather Graham, for representing our town at the National Town Crier Championship hosted by Rugeley Town Council on 6th June.

While Bob wasn't placed this time, Heather won πŸ† Best Dressed Consort πŸ† β€” a fantastic achievement! πŸ‘βœ¨

As Bob said, "We had a fabulous time and it was a great experience, so much fun and all involved pulled out all the stops to make us all feel so welcome." After all, it's not about winning, it's about taking part and enjoying the occasion. 😊

A big thank you to Rugeley Town Council for hosting such a wonderful event and making everyone feel so welcome. πŸ™

Well done, Bob and Heather, and good luck in your upcoming competitions! πŸ€πŸ“―

πŸ“’ Manor House Play Park Update

We wanted to let everyone know that some of the play equipment at Manor House Play Park has recently been removed. This is due to damage that could pose a risk to public safety.

βœ… The safety of our community is our top priority
πŸ”§ Replacement equipment is already planned and will be installed shortly

We appreciate your patience while we work to improve the park and make it a safe and enjoyable space for everyone again.

Thank you for your understanding πŸ’š

At its meeting on 3 June, Dawlish Town Council welcomed the Newhay Task & Finish Group’s recommendations and resolved not to take on ownership or direct management of the site. The Town Council is excited to support a properly constituted community organisation to care for Newhay so it remains public, accessible open space for everyone to enjoy πŸŒΏπŸ–οΈ.

It was certainly the majority view of the over 50 members of public that attended the meeting that there is much energy in the community to bring about such a group to care for the Newhay, in conjunction with the Diocese, going forward.

The Town Council will act as an enabler and facilitator - ready to help with grants, one‑off funding, officer support and sharing our due diligence reports (subject to powers and resources), in addition to the many other grant funding opportunities available to such groups.

Any support fom the Town Council will be explicitly conditional on the community group being committed to ensuring that the Newhay continues to remain as public open space.

If your group is interested in getting involved, please get in touch by emailing [email protected] - let’s work together to protect and enhance this special place πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ“£

✨ Celebrating Devon Day in style! ✨

Today we were delighted to raise the Devon flag and mark this special day. Although we didn't have a ceremony for this, it we were joined by our wonderful wildfowl, who added a little extra charm (and personality!) to the occasion πŸ¦†πŸ’š

A lovely moment to celebrate everything that makes Devon so special β€” from its beautiful surroundings to the unique characters who call it home, feathered friends included!

This week, as part of the Volunteers Week, we want to say a huge thank you to the amazing volunteers who help make our community so special. πŸ’™

🌳🚨 Important Tree Works in the War Memorial Garden 🚨🌳

Unfortunately, urgent works had to be undertaken to the mature Red Oak tree in the War Memorial Garden after significant cracks and splits were identified along its main trunk. 🌳⚠️

Following assessment, it was clear that the tree might affect nearby property 🏠, power lines ⚑ and users of Oak Hill Road πŸš—, making action necessary.

πŸ™ We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the volunteers who first alerted us to the issue and quickly contacted National Grid and the Police. πŸ‘πŸ’š

⚑ A big thank you to National Grid for their rapid response and support, and to our contractors πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ‘·β€β™€οΈπŸšœ who attended at short notice this morning to carry out the necessary works safely and efficiently.

🌱 The remaining section of the trunk will now be assessed, and specialist advice will be sought to determine the most appropriate course of action. This will include considering whether the tree is capable of regrowth 🌳, whether further removal works may be required πŸͺ΅, or whether alternative management options are available.

🌿 Consideration will also be given to the possibility of planting a suitable replacement tree in the future, ensuring the continued contribution of trees to this important area of the town. πŸŒ³πŸ’š
